Love how Haley and Andy were preparing each other for their interviews. So glad Haley didn't take no for an answer and got the job.

Awe, Jay finally realized Gloria is missing some of her heritage and decided to learn Spanish for her.

This ep was wonderful. It's weird actually, it wasn't funny to me that much but I still enjoyed it.

I am loving Haley & Andy as friends (for now). I think it won't be too weird if they do get together in the end if they're like this now. I loved seeing Michael Urie as Haley's new boss! Do we get to see him again? :pinkie: We know that it was Alex that Claire should be worried about so I'm glad Phil got this "win". :D

Love the SL with Jay/Gloria. When English isn't your first language, it's hard. I don't go grammar police on people if I know this. And it's good that Jay was able to realize this in the end. And Manny's new Spanish tutor is hot! I remember seeing that actor on Sleepy Hollow last season. :)

Also, how similar are Phil & Andy sense of humor? God I love those two!!!

Favorite physical comedy acting in this ep goes to Cam in the courtroom and Haley in the end at her car. LMAAAAAOOOO. :rotfl:

I thought the Jay/Cam SL was just okay. I couldn't get into it that much though.

"Oh this one, he's my rock, he's my Connie Britton," said Cam.
"Your Connie Britton?" Mitchell asked.
Cam answered, "Mrs. Coach on 'Friday Night Lights.'"

Who doesn't love Tami?

lovely episode :D

poor Alex totally exhausting herself with so much studying, aw  been that way many times myself xd

it was great to see that Haley didn't give up when they told her to leave and she got the job. and that scene in the car oh my gosh :rotfl: "I'm not going anywheeeeeerrrrrre!!" amazing

and I can totally relate to Gloria on the language problem. not being a native English speaker is very hard at times especially when ppl are intolerant.. I'm lucky I was brought up having to learn my mother tongue and English simultaneously but others starting later have more struggles. of course we can't expect anyone to learn our language cause it's only used here xd
I loved that Jay decided to learn Spanish at the end, I'd love to learn it too

This was a nice episode. It wasn't that funny but it had a lot of interesting stories. I've been waiting to hear Jay speak Spanish, how sweet. Manny's tutor was totally hot

I like seeing Haley and Andy getting closer and probably moving on after the tension they had last time. I still hope they'll get together :sigh:

Why Doesn't Manny Already Know Spanish?

Let me first say I am a big fan of the show and am in no way trolling with my question. I think the writing, acting, chemistry etc are all first rate which is little short of a miracle considering how young many of the performers were and still are.

But Manny not knowing Spanish is driving me nuts!!

It is precisely because I so respect the writing, the believability of the characters and their wonderfully intricate back-stories that I am so upset about this detail. Perhaps I missed something. I am not sure I saw the original seasons and may lack a critical piece of information. Here is how I understand the time-line of Manny's early years.

He was born in South America to South American parents. His Father deserted them or the couple divorced or both. In any case his mother, Sophia, brought him to the USA, perhaps as a small infant, where she worked at low-paying jobs. One of those, which made up the bulk of the years prior to meeting Jay, was in a poor, predominantly SPANISH neighborhood as a hair-dresser. She would have been speaking Spanish all day long. She STILL struggles with English so it is inconceivable to me that she would not have spoken to him in Spanish as a baby and toddler, at least SOME of the time. The neighborhood he grew up in would have been filled with spanish speaking people, at least the older ones. I get that she would have made an effort to speak English to him so he would assimilate and I get that he would not have an accent as he would have learned English at school well before puberty, but I don't get how he is not fluent in Spanish. At the very least he should have been surrounded by enough it as a child that "picking it up" would be easy to him at fourteen. Gloria even pointed to this in the episode saying "What could be more natural than your Mother's tongue in your ear". Mother Tongue, which she was going for, refers to your FIRST, primary language that you learned from your Mother.

I have known children of immigrants. Every one of them had at least a workable understanding of their parents' language. Those immigrant parents who struggled with English did so precisely because they were living in a neighborhood where they could spend most of their time speaking their native language and only had to switch to English when dealing with those native to their adopted country.

This doesn't even take into account the unusually strong bond between Manny and Sophia. For years it was just the two of them against the world. Isn't he curious to hear what's really on her mind? He's served as her primary interpreter all six seasons and he's doing it by "intuition"? Telepathy?
