I think Lucius did exist. The Rome wiki page says he's based on a real person with the same name who is briefly mentioned in Julius Caesar's De Bello Gallico 5.44.

Ooops! Looks like Caesar won't have to worry about Pompey after all. And it seems that the Ptolomy's weren't as friendly to Pompey as he thought they'd be.

Hmm... that's a good question. Caesar could be ruthless, but he also had the capacity to be generous as well. I guess it depends on what point in his life you caught him in.
