The show got picked up for season 5. It's my understanding that Lotte played the main character's mother in flashbacks... it's not clear whether she's dead or alive in the present time. That being said, I presume Lotte could always be back for more flashbacks?

I thought her character was so mysterious and intriguing. Never quite sure if she was a friend or foe.

That was intriguing because she got away with a lot, yes. It's more that I'm not happy with the how the author/the writers portray women because ultimately Gillian/Geillis turned out to be this murderous deluded harpy who

Yep, we just saw that on the most recent episode, Nina.

Gellis/Gillian hasn't changed much.

She's still evil She's taken her original motivation of Scottish independence in the 20th Century and used it as an excuse to be an amoral killer.

And I think the fact that she is from the 20th century gave her a sense of superiority to everyone around her in the 16th Century, which is why Claire was such a challenge for her.
