I'm pretty sure something akin to the spiritual father thing was said. I'll go back through the episodes and look for it and get back to you on it. I remember being surprised at Cesare's admiration of Savonarola too so I know it wasn't just both of us imaging it.

Oh and just to let people know Borgia FF season 3 is available on Netflix now.

Thanks for letting us know, Trina. I'd like to check out the ending for myself and see what the fuss is about.

There were so many times in season 3 of BFF that I went, "wtf is Fontana thinking."

Spoiler alert.

Hi there, Trina!

OMG, are those spoilers accurate? I'll try to watch it online anyway, but damn... that's a big stretch Fontana is taking.

As I told Trina, I've committed to watching it, but I'm just going to pretend that it is a comedy and imagine Monty Python as I watch so that I can get through it.

And I so agree on the dialogue. It is clunky, expository and oh so self-conscious. I feel like it is an example that I would show my students on how not to write...show me; don't tell me.

As for the scene that Trina talked about previously, it wasn't even the "ick" factor that bothered me. It was just so poorly done with no cleverness that it became farcical and funny. I was actually laughing. It looked like Rodrigo had hold of a prosthetic appendage.

I can't believe anyone gave this man money to make this!

OMG that sounds terrible... and yeah, I never understood why they had to go there with Rodrigo/Lucrezia since S2 that's freaking horrible.

What I don't get is why it was every male family member. I'm sure if Fontana had devoted more time to Joffre he would have wanted her too. I mean it's one thing to show some of the rumors as Fontana did like Cesare killing Pedro in front of the Pope but is it really believable having all three of the men in love/lust with Lucrezia? Does TF think the Borgias were like that for real or is he just milking the myths? If he's just milking the myths he could have done a better job, been a little more creative about it.

Part of my problem with Borgia FF stems from Fontana's way of directing. He likes to show things in the most disgusting manner and it's usually unnecessary drivel to boot.

Some examples (and there were lots more) was Rodrigo naked in front of the public after using drugs. Is the only way to show Rodrigo reached his lowest point using drugs is by being shamed publicly like that? Surely it could have been dealt with in a more subtle realization. It just all reeks of poor execution and writing.

Then later Cesare's imprisoned and he shows Mark jerking off. It's like, "really?" with the jerking off again? Can't we all guess he did that at times? Why bother showing such trivial stuff? That stuff detracts from the show for me and doesn't add anything to the characterization or plot in my opinion.

It's not the irk factor in the above, we saw plenty of Jeremy Iron's naked in The Borgias too, it's just that grade school level erotica feeling to the show. It's like a bad porno/gore fest with little other substance. Maybe if I found it entertaining I could overlook the show's obvious fails, but I didn't even find it mildly appealing. Maybe my knowledge on the real family is preventing me from really getting into the show. Seems like most Borgia FF fans don't know anything about the Borgias so makes sense I guess. My problem with that is I saw season 1 before I knew anything about the Borgias and still found it unbearable. Maybe I'm too prudish?
