François | Cesare #18: "My walls may yet prove stronger than you think, my lady." ~ Cesare to Caterina

He was made Bishop of Pamplona at the age of 15. Following school in Perugia and Pisa where Cesare studied law, along with his father's elevation to Pope, Cesare was made Cardinal three years later. After his brother Juan's death, Cesare became the first person in history to resign the cardinalate. On the same day the French King Louis XII named Cesare Duke of Valentinois, and this title, along with his former position as Cardinal of Valencia, explains the nickname "Valentino". Cesare's military career was founded upon his father's ability to distribute patronage, along with his alliance with France (reinforced by his marriage with Charlotte d'Albret, sister of John III of Navarre), in the course of the Italian Wars. At the time of his father's death in 1503, Cesare's dominons in the Romagna disintegrated without continued Papal support. In order to smooth the way to his election as pope, Giuliano Della Rovere - later Pope Julius II - made an agreement with Cesare, promising to make him captain of the papal troops again. After the conclave, Cesare surrendered the Castel Sant' Angelo and came to live with Della Rovere in the Vatican. The pope toyed with the idea of using Cesare to stem the Venetians in the Romagna, for he could still attract loyalty not only from the Spanish but also, to some degree, from the people of the province. However, the Venetians claimed that all they were doing was taking the lands of their common enemy, Cesare Boriga. Hence, Julius II asked Cesare for the countersigns of the fortresses that he held (Cesena, Bertinoro and Forlì). In return Cesare received a brief saying that he could go where he liked once the cities had been surrendered. He went to Naples and begun to try to recruit troops but when the Spanish monarchs heard of this they ordered their viceroy Gonsalvo to arrest Cesare. Exiled to Spain in 1504, he was imprisoned in the Castle of La Mota, Medina del Campo, from which he escaped and joined his brother-in-law King John III of Navarre. Subsequently, Cesare was killed in 1507 while fighting for the Navarrese king in the city of Viana, Spain. In "The Prince", Machiavelli uses Cesare Borgia as an example to elucidate the dangers of acquiring a principality by virtue of another. Cesare also inspired many novels and was portrayed in many movies and television series based on the Borgia's rise and fall. For instance most recently: The Borgias (TV, 2011) played by François Arnaud Borgia (TV, 2011) played by Mark Ryder Los Borgia (Movie, 2006) played by Sergio Peris-Mencheta The Borgias (TV, 1981) played by Oliver Cotton *** François Arnaud François Arnaud (born 5 July 1985 in Québéc, Canada) is a French Canadian stage and film actor who trained at the Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique de Montréal in 2007. He is best known for his performances as "Cesare Borgia" in Showtime's TV series The Borgias and as "Antonin" in the critically acclaimed French Canadian movie J'ai tué ma mère. In 2009, he had a part in Sophie Lorain's Les Grandes Chaleurs. In Québéc, François is known for his role as "Théo" in the TV series Yamaska. __________________

Thank you so much for the pics, I specially like the BTS, he looks so focused at work. He's biting his nails, lol!! I find it cute, I know its a bad habit, but it makes him look a bit childish and I like it.
I think Famke and François are more likely to play mother and son. She's 20 years his senior, and she's already played the mother of a 25 years old character on HG. I don't know, she looks pretty much younger than she is, tho. Yes, yesterday was Cesare's birthday. I've been actually quite near to Viana, I've visited Soria once, but never went to Navarra. There are people who travel to Viana and all they find is a stone on the ground, outside of the church. Well, I guess you already knew, but I really wish he could have a better place to rest. He wasn't better or worse than other conquerers , way better considered than him, and Viana gets many visitors only to see the Borgia tomb. __________________

Hi, Maria! Thanks so much for that on set gif of Francois!
Yeah, I do wish Cesare had a better resting place. I didn't know that was all he ended up getting. __________________

Source: I think Cesare was better than many rulers of the day & most of his bad rep comes from Della Rovere (Pope JuliusII) who had nothing decent to say about The Borgias Yes Cesare's tomb has been very mistreated through the years & he deserves a shrine IMO Here lies in a little earth he who everyone feared, he who peace and war held in his hand. Oh, you who go in search of worthy things to praise, if you would praise the worthiest then your path stops here and you do not need to go any farther Source: I saw someone else speculating it's TV show called Blindspot which was filming in Brooklyn night he posted his 9/11 insta post but I don't see Francois listed on the cast members & there's a lot of them listed on the IMDb page sooo?? Not sure this is correct or not. Lots of interesting speculations on what this series is __________________

A bit of history:
Cesare's brother in law ordered to build a proper sepulchre and he rested inside the church of Santa María de Viana. The verses above are inspired by the beauty of this alabaster sepulchre. In the 16th century a bishop ordered to remove his remains and placed them on the ground of the village, and commanded everyone to walk over his tomb, since he considered him the worst of sinners . During Spanish Second Republic they finally made a beautiful mausoleum again, but sadly our Civil War started shortly after and his sepulchre was destroyed once more. After the war the City councyl made the simple and plain white stone we see today, but at least he's on sacred ground now. “CÉSAR BORGIA GENERALÍSIMO DE LOS EJÉRCITOS DE NAVARRA Y PONTIFICIOS. MUERTO EN CAMPOS DE VIANA EL XI DE MARZO DE MDVII”. 'César Borgia Highest General of the Armies of Navarra and the Popal States. Dead in the field of Viana. 11th march 1507' As Della Rovere became Pope Julius II, he kept doing the same things Cesare and Alexander did, conquering more territorys and having mistresses. In fact he is known by the nickname "The warrior Pope" No saint either. Haha, you knew it was François because of the shape of his nails. I can see them in the pic, really short nails lol. It must be an old habit, probably since he was a child. I guess he can't help it. I wish we knew what series he's shooting. Hopefully it is New Amsterdam, I'm really interested in the cast and plot, and having him again in old fashion clothes, haha. They suit him so well. __________________
