Micheletto l Sean Harris #3: "I stand in awe, your Eminence."
Welcome to the 3rd Micheletto l Sean Harris appreciattion thread Credit: May Micheletto Corella (also known as Michelotto Coreglia, Michele di Corella or Miquel de Corella) was a foot soldier, a mercenary, an assassin, who from the earliest days of Cesare Borgia's career had followed his master's fortunes. He is generally assumed to have been a Spaniard from Valènica, the Borgias' homeland. Micheal Mallett speculates in his book on the Borgia that he was even a very distant relative of them. However, 19th century historian Edoardo Alvisi supposes him, from his name Corella, to have been of Venetian origin. Historically there are no indications that he came from Forlì as was depicted in series 2 of "The Borgias". Micheletto and Cesare Borgia were thought to be close friends since childhood, going on to accompany one another during their studies at the University of Pisa. With time, Michelotto developed a boundless devotion to Cesare to the extent of that by his fidelity to Cesare and the implicit manner in which he executed his master's orders, he earned considerable hatred. During Cesare's military campaigns Micheletto often played a key role, for instance in the conquest of Pesaro and Urbino (the latter after some setbacks). In Piombino Cesare had even left Micheletto as his govenour for a time. The exact number of murders he committed under the Borgia’s command is still unknown. Remarkably, he killed both Vitellozzo Vitelli and Oliverotto da Fermo at the same time, strangling them with a violin string in Senigallia on December 31, 1502. In 1503, when the news of Alexander VI's death was brought to Cesare, who was still week from the fever, he issued orders to Micheletto to hold Rome in an iron grip with the help of the ducal troops. The Pope's death was being kept secret and was not announced until nightfall, by then Micheletto had carried out Cesare's orders, the seizure of the Pope's treasure: Plate and jewels to the value of about 200,000 ducats, besides two caskets containing 100,000 ducats each in gold. Still after Cesare's recovery, his followers had gone to aid their compatriots and Cesare's enemies. Thus Cesare had no force to afford his Romagna subjects any longer. His peril became imminient and he summoned Micheletto who was at Rocca Soriana at the time and Taddeo della Volpe (another valiant captain of his with their men-at-arms. Suddenly the entire face of affairs was altered and all plans were checked by the death of Pius III at the end of October. When Cesare was was fast at the Vatican, treated by Julius II with all friendliness and consideration, but virtually a prisoner nonetheless, he had to surrender his Romagna strongholds when news reached him that Micheletto and della Volpe who had gone north with seven hundred men to prepare to take back the Romagna for Cesare had been cut to pieces in Tuscany by the army of Gianpaolo Baglioni. Julius II then had Micheletto taken prisoner by the Florentines and sent to Rome under a strong escort. However, when Micheletto was pressed with questions, they yielded nothing. He was liberated by Julius II in 1505 after an interrogation which revealed nothing defamatory to Cesare or his father. Subsequently Micheletto entered the service of the Signory of Florence, He thanks to Niccolò Machiavelli's mediation, who recommended him as bargello. He held this position for two years, until 1507. Micheletto was killed in Milan in 1508 by some Spaniards although the instigator is unknown. Sean Harris (born 1966 in Bethnal Green, London, England) is an English actor, who is best known for his performance as Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in the film "24 Hour Party People". He trained at the Drama Centre London. Other notable roles include serial killer Ian Brady, one of the notorious culprits of the Moors Murders, on ITV1's "See No Evil: The Moors Murders", and Nick Sidney in the cult mockumentary "Brothers of the Head". More television credits include Channel 4's drama series "Cape Wrath", the BBC series "Ashes to Ashes" and Channel 4's critically acclaimed "Red Riding" series. In the recent BBC TV drama "Five Daughters", he played Brian Tobin, co-founder of The Iceni Project, a drugs treatment facility based in Suffolk, England. In 2011 he joined the cast of the Showtime series "The Borgias" playing the role of Micheletto Corella. Most recently Harris played Fifield in the Ridley Scott 2012 sci-fi film "Prometheus". Name: “Don Micheletto” Miguel de Corella aka the Garroter, the Strangler Position: Assassin, Borgia Family Bodyguard Personality type: Despite intimidating appearance, he was noted as a merciful person, a fair and very nice person. Don Micheletto was a deeply religious man who absolutely believed he did the work of God when given orders from The Holy See. Endearing trait(s): Quiet and soft spoken Strength(s): Ruthless, loyal, covert, cruel Weakness(es): unknown Quirks: Joker-like scars across mouth from bandits Credit: May For many years, Don Michelotto was the bodyguard of Rodrigo Borgia's children. Some historians (see below) assert that he may have been educated at The University of Pisa. Skilled in the use of a garrote, knives and torture. "It is, furthermore, of interest to note that Don Miguel was not, in fact, some crude, uneducated butcher, but a gentleman who lived daily in the company of Cesare, with whom he would appear to have been a student at the University of Pisa, and whose friendship he enjoyed." (from "The Borgias" by Clemente Fusero). Credit: May "After May 1506, Michelotto, the man who more than any other knew the darkest secrets of the terrible Valentino, vanishes from historical records...Possibly he joined his legitimate brother fighting in the service of Spain: he may even have returned to his distant native town of Corella in Navarre. The date of his death is not known, but Miguel da Corella being the man that he was, one can conjecture that he, like his master Cesare, died fighting." - Juliana-angela, quoting "Cesare Borgia: His Life and Times'' (Phoenix, 2001) bySarah Bradford. You're welcome, Christine. It's been a while since we've needed a new Mich/Sean thread.

You're welcome, May. And I'm sure we would've gotten a new thread anyway.
Thanks for the gifs! One of my favorite scenes! Well, except for the part about Juan's body being thrown in the Tiber. __________________
