I think she realized she might need him in battle and knew he did have an army, so used it to her advantage.

She most likely won't do it again though, no matter how much they might need it.

I've never had a doubt that he'd die this season. I think there will be a lot of frustration if he survives another one.

Not really, he has always had secret motives, for example we could see Littlefinger as part of the reason why Ned is dead.
