Honestly, I was in a deep shock when I read the book for the first time and Martin kill Eddard. But so far, I really cannot see how a man like him will have even a little chance to survive in a world like this one.

He was powerful and honorable man of nobility. However, pretty naive and straight in his actions. I will quote Belish 'Starks - always first act, after that think'.
