I would agree. On the show, Littlefinger's agenda is out there for all the characters to see. It would be interesting if they had kept him more subtle. He's more fascinating in the book because his intentions are up for interpretation. I feel the same about Margaery. The change in her character made her so much less interesting.

While I feel that Littlefinger in the show is indeed different from in the book, I feel that it's a little bit more realistic, and that it was a necessary change in order to have him better carry over from the novels to the TV show.

I'm agree Littlefinger is more mysterious in the books that you can't say what he'll do or think while in the show sometimes it's like if he has a big placard with all what he want do. He's not enough subtle like you said and the fact he shows his intentions to others (like Varys) discredits him.
And for Margaery too; in the books I found her uninteresting and in the show more yet. Like with Littlefinger we know what game she plays and her acts with Joffrey are so easy to understand. A bad adaptation for these two characters at least for me.
