That's just not Beckett's style and for that I can respect her for it.

She put Castle in his place when he tried to interfere with her life. She is just torn because both men are important to her.

Ron_Beckett 04-21-2015 02:57 PM

Yeah true. And she did defend her team against Bracken and threatened what she would do if he hurt anyone she cared about.

So in that regard I can see Beckett giving Espo a good talking to.

Just last night she had to let them know just go an investigate even if it ends up a dead end. She will always back up Castle even when the other two hesitate.

Ron_Beckett 04-21-2015 04:30 PM

Yeah so at least that was something.

A good talking? Espo is not a child, he can be suspicious if he feels like something is fishy, especially that nothing about this story adds up. From his POV his friend was left in the unknown for two months, desperately searching for her fiancee. Besides, it was in character, he has always been portrayed this way, loyal to Kate, doubtful about Castle.

I was rather disappointed with the episode, the explanation felt ridiculous and lazy (can't they come up with sth new for Castle?). The episode was all over the place. I wonder whether that's supposed to be the end. He disappeared for two months, the CIA altered his memories and everybody is ok with it bc he saved the world?

^ I am not saying he can't have questions it is the way he acts. Like Castle did this on purpose and wanted to hurt Kate. I can understand not being satisfied with the story but he acts like Castle is the enemy. That is what I hate. Like Castle hasn't earned his trust. You know damn well if it was Kate he would believe her until the end. And not question it. He proved that during "Always" episode.

Truth be told I had problems with Espo way before season 7.

I'm not particularly thrilled that the writers chose Espo to be the doubter or the somewhat antagonist to this topic, but I suppose there needed to be someone or something against Castle's view to built up the angst. Not choosing right words today... but hope you know what I mean.

Come to think of it, perhaps Gates should have been more of the doubter character in this one.

The only thing I'll give Espo is that if he's from the military and he knows Castle well, it's hard for him to believe Castle handled himself well in his military situation as described... so feels like a fair initial reaction... but after that initial reaction perhaps would fit more if the Espo was more supportive and have Gates be the doubter.

Asked one of my fav people on tumblr bout Espo this season this was her response and its super good

I’m really not one to hop on the Esposito hate train because he’s a character so inconsistently written that I don’t think its fair to start beating on him when you never really know what is gonna come out of his mouth. It’s a bit like Lanie in season five (remember the terrible, terrible relationship advice/doubt/skepticism of Castle’s innocence?) for Espo this season in that they need someone to be the skeptic and the doubter to stir up some tension. Since Ryan is Castle junior, that role falls to Esposito.

But if you think about his background, the guy obviously has trust and commitment issues. His dad abandoned his family, he’s never really had a serious relationship and the one semi-serious relationship keeps breaking up because they can’t settle on where they want to go. I’ve always assumed that the only family Esposito has is his mother and that they might not be particularly close since he’s talked about his grandmother far more over the years so, to me, Beckett, Ryan, Castle and Lanie are his family.

Now, Castle has seemingly deserted the family, walked out on Beckett and definitely crushed her spirit just a little. Espo was all ready to help and hunt down the people responsible until he saw evidence that led him to believe otherwise. He’s a military guy, he believes in actions more than words, and I can absolutely believe given that fact, plus his emotional history with a father who walked out to start a life with another woman, that Esposito has just held a grudge that he’s not gonna let go of until there’s irrefutable proof that Castle was coerced into his kidnapping. And he’s right, Castle’s story for those missing months doesn’t add up, so on that avenue he’s got a right to be on the side of the fence marked ‘doubt’.

I think his behavior is also in defense of Beckett because she’s been a coworker/they have a friendship that’s lasted probably close to a decade by now. He’s seen what happens when someone walks out, and he knows what Beckett has already gone through, so he steps in to protect her and keep her looking at things like a cop should. Does he actually hate Castle? Nah, but I think that skeptical part of him distrusts Castle right now. Esposito isn’t the sort of person who can really trust his gut in a situation like this. It hits too close to home and because of that he’s been kind of an ass, picked on Castle a little more than he maybe should.

But I also am not one of those people who gets bothered by the characters being snarky, probably because I’m snarky like that in my day to day life and the people who know me know that 80% of the time I’m just kidding. And if Castle and/or Beckett aren’t calling him (or Perlmutter, another favorite that people like to rail on for his sarcasm) out on it then it either doesn’t bother them, or they don’t read anything into whatever he might say because its Esposito being Esposito.

For me as a viewer it’s not even worth getting worked up about because this week Esposito said something nasty to Castle, next week he’ll be bending over backwards to help him. His personality is written as needed to fill a void in the script, so god bless Jon Huertas for not going insane over seven years with the whiplash of trying to figure out what is up and what is down. If I’m gonna get upset about something, it’s gonna be flipping the switch on him so that he fits a role versus giving him actual opinions and motivations that the character sticks to.

Ron_Beckett 04-22-2015 04:59 PM

Oh I like that and it makes complete sense.

I don't know if he's on my list or not but Espo can still be an ass a lot of the time and that I don't like

I just think he is an ass period. I started thinking that way before season 7. Season 7 has just made him more insufferable to me. He is still on my list. :bunny:
