She was the catalyst for why the Mockingjay was "born" in the first place. Had it not been for that pin and solidarity in friendship, Katniss wouldn't have become who she was meant to.

I wasn't that big a fan in the movie version where Katniss just saw the mockingjay pin in the Hob and the lady decided to let her keep it. That scene made it seem like it was really dismissed.

I agree w/ you about her being the catalyst.. Plus most fans don't like that scene when she "saw" the pin.. So disappointing..

Her just seeing the pin made that moment very insignificant when in actuality it was a big deal.

I'm sure that having Madge in the movie then we will know little more about the pin from and see Haymitch's game that he went w/ Madge's aunt.. Sigh..

Me too. They didn't utilize Haymitch as much as he was in the book and a throw back/flashback/video of his games would have really added something.

Can someone remind me what happened to Madge in MJ? She wasn't really a detail I paid attention to when I was reading it.

Yup since I reread the books and I decide to watch the movie but foever disappointing that they didn't cast her.. Sigh..

It was mentioned that her place was destroyed and it was uncertain if she died with the rest of 12 or relocated to the Capitol or escaped and went elsewhere.

I think they would've been among the first to die. Her father being mayor of D12 made them an easier target at the center of the town. I think most of the survivors are people from the Seam and not the middle class. Gale/Katniss talk about how people had a fear of the woods. Katniss in (CF the book) talks about how even Peeta wasn't comfortable about the woods but he covered it because she had been sneaking out for almost half a decade and he trusted her when she suggested they all run away together.
