I wonder what could have been the purpose of this kiss?

Obviously, the writers wanted to deepen the attraction between them but since it's TVD, i suspect that a triangle is coming. Either with Tyler but everybody seems to think that he'll break up with her, or Stefan which is credible considering that the romantic tension between them has been enhanced too in the last episode.

Is is Jess going to hide his new vampire condition and continue to flirt with Caroline with Stefan getting progressively jealous or is Jess going to turn in a more confident and rough guy, a little obsessive too, forcing Stefan to protect her?
