Ugh… though just from stuff I've read and from spoilers I'm still lacking any desire to watch this show again. Its a shell of the show I once loved. I stuck through a lot of ****ty shows till the end but for some reason this one was just destroyed for me.

Im keep trying to have faith that the writers will somehow make all these worthwhile but everything I read just makes it worse.

Im so proud of all you guys that are still sticking around… I used to think Id always be faithful to the end but somehow TVD is the one show that changed that.

The CW's “Vampire Diaries” took a turn for the insane last season when Elena (Nina Dobrev) lost her soulmate Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to the “Other Side” and Mystic Falls fell to the spell that declared the town magic-free.

The good news for “Delena” fans is the show's co-executive producer Caroline Dries assured TheWrap that the characters’ love was “meant to be,” even if they won't be reunited in Thursday's Season 6 opener.

Damon will begin Season 6 somewhere with Bonnie (Kat Graham), though Dries played coy on where exactly they are and what exactly the nature of their often contentious relationship will be.

“I can say exploring their dynamic as a duo has opened up this new world of the show by exploring their dynamic as a duo,” Dries said.

Elsewhere, complicated love lives are as complicated as ever.

Dries spoke with TheWrap about how Julie Plec is juggling “Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” which Mystic Falls resident she'd trade for someone from New Orleans, and the challenges of wrangling such a huge cast of supernatural characters.

Here are five things TheWrap learned from Dries:

1. Bonnie and Damon are finally getting alone time
The two characters haven't exactly been friends since their Season 1 introduction, but after the Season 5 finale saw Bonnie and Damon banished to some unknown otherworldly dimension, they're about to suddenly get some alone time.

“It's super fun and its making the show feel very fresh,” she continued. “It feels like brand new material we have not explored. The two actors are such a pleasure to see on camera, it has just been a joy this season.”

2. Co-creator Julie Plec will be as involved as ever with Season 6, kind of
Julie Plec created ”The Vampire Diaries” along with Kevin Williamson back in 2009, but after spin-off series “The Originals” launched in 2013 she suddenly had double the work on her plate.

But Dries insists Plec is still as involved as possible with both shows’ day-to-day duties. ”She's still heavily involved in ‘TVD.’ She's more of an overseer, but she weighs in a lot,” Dries said.

“The reason I've stayed employed for so long is because I'm able to carry the torch of [Julie's] vision, so it's not like I'm trying to hijack the show or change the vision — I'm basically just leading it down the path she would've wanted it to go,” she continued.

3. The Stefan/Elena/Damon triangle may be over, but love in Mystic Falls is still complicated
“One off the strongest elements of the show in all of the different story-lines is the love story,” Dries said. “The Elena-Damon love story is really the key to the series at this point. It's not something we'll end because he's dead.”

Stefan and Elena's relationship, on the other hand, took a turn for the platonic after she got vamped and according to Dries the flames of their romance may never be rekindled.

“Setfan and Elena morphed into a really soulful friendship when she became a vampire,” Dries explained. “Elena as a human was meant to be with Stefan, but Elena as a vampire was meant to be with Damon.”

But Stefan fans shouldn't feel too bad for him yet as show trailers have teased that he'll be finding a fresh love interest this season in newcomer Ivy (Emily Chang). And of course, there's still Caroline (Candice Accola), who admitted she had feelings for Stefan last season.

“Caroline has unresolved, confusing friend feelings with Stefan in the beginning of the season that she's trying to compartmentalize,” Dries said. “But he's not making that easy on her because he's so emotionally distraught over losing Damon that he can't mentally, psychologically or emotionally fathom the idea of starting something beyond a friendship with anyone.” But that could change as the season goes on, Dries teased.

4. Stefan is Mystic Falls’ most expendable resident
When forced to answer TheWrap's hypothetical question about which “Vampire Diaries” character she'd swap for a character from “The Originals,” Dries’ answer was surprising.

“I would want Rebekah [played by Claire Holt] in a heartbeat,” she said without hesitation. “In a heartbeat.”

Then she paused. “Who would I give [to 'The Originals']? Um, I would probably give them Stefan,” she said. “I just really like the Stefan-Klaus relationship. They can go on a little romp together.”

5. Writing for “The Vampire Diaries” ever-expanding cast has been Season 6's biggest challenge
It's not easy writing for such a large cast of characters, each with their own set of powers and supernatural elements that make the fantastical well within limits. “Our biggest challenge is the abundance of characters that we have,” said Dries.

“[There] isn't much to time to tell really compelling stories with the 500,000 characters we have on the show,” she continued. “You don't have a lot of wiggle room.”

Dries also revealed it's difficult to always be coming up with fresh spells for her characters to cast. “We've seen so many spells,” she said. “It's like, what haven't we done?”

Yes, everyone had to scatter or die, basically. Stefan can’t go back to Mystic Falls, or he’ll die because of the stuff that happened last season — anybody with supernatural powers will immediately go back to their human form, and then they die how they actually would have died. So for Stefan, those bullet wounds from 1854 would just open and he’d die. Wouldn’t want that.

And the word is that Stefan is not traipsing across existential planes trying to locate Damon.
No. I’m a mechanic. I’m a car mechanic. I don’t know — I think Stefan is just trying to assimilate, and it’s a pretty arbitrary career choice. But he really needs a break.

Okay, this is making me nervous, because it feels like Dexter and the whole lumberjack thing.
Oh, I’ve never seen Dexter. Is it bad?

It’s a bit anticlimactic, actually.
Well, you know, he just needs a break. For five seasons, every time things with Damon end up imploding, it’s Stefan to the rescue. And that’s getting old. So this time, when Julie Plec and I talked about how Stefan spent his summer, she was like, “Looking for Damon, of course.” And I was like, “No!” I said, “Can we try a different approach? Can he bail, for once? Let Damon deal with it.” And Julie really liked that idea. It’s not forever, but it’s his reaction to things. It changes the game.

And so, with Damon stuck in the other realm and Stefan off fixing cars, Elena is without a Salvatore by her side. Whatever will she do?
Um, she’s losing her mind. She can’t handle it. At all.

Elena and the brothers Salvatore have been one of the juiciest love triangles on TV for six seasons. Does it ever get old for you guys?
Yeah. I mean, there are only so many ways you can do it after a certain point. I almost don’t feel like it’s a love triangle anymore. I know it’s advertised as that — and I know that’s how it started. But Elena and Stefan are so platonic at this point that I just don’t really see that ever happening again.

Paul, you’re breaking a lot of Stelena shippers’ hearts right now. Truly.
I mean, never say never. But I just can’t really see it happening, unfortunately. And I hate to say it for those Stelena fans. But it’s just become so platonic.

So what becomes of the lovelorn Stefan?
Well, him and Caroline seem to have a connection. I’d like to see that go down. I’m all for that. So they’re ready to explore that. We’ve just got to get them over that friendship hump, let them get down and dirty, and then deal with the consequences.

Hmmm ... would that make things really awkward?
You mean between me and Candice Accola and her fiancé [Fray guitarist Joe King], who’s a good friend of mine?

Are you going to the wedding?
I am! It’s fun. We all hang out. They’re a great couple, I adore them both. But on the show, things won’t be awkward. Yeah, Caroline is Elena’s best friend forever. But I mean, Damon is Stefan’s brother. That wasn’t awkward, right? And I mean, I really feel like Elena and Stefan are really platonic. The only awkward thing is getting Caroline and Stefan through that friend barrier.

I can see people rooting for that. Staroline? Cefan?
I don’t know, but I hope so. I think there’s some chemistry there. And I think Stefan’s ready for a new love. But it will be a while. Right now, the gang’s dispersed, Stefan’s disconnected, and there’s a new guy who’s totally sociopathic in town. Stefan really doesn’t want to have anything to do with it. He’s kind of thrown his hands in the air and doesn’t care.

So we’re back to apathetic Stefan.
Not exactly. But season six is a bit of a reset for him. He’s been through a lot. Damon causes a lot of drama. They’re not in high school anymore, thank God! He’s going into his own head, working with his hands, tuning it all out.

And of course, eventually, he’ll have to go help Damon.
But not for a long time. I kind of wanted to do the antithesis of that this year. I don’t like it when he’s too noble — it’s boring. I like really flawed Stefan. I like when he’s doing something, and he knows it’s wrong, but he has to do it anyway. I like when he’s not particularly heroic. He’s been the hero for so long. I find the flaws to be very interesting. It’s what makes him human.

You’ve got two indies coming up, too, Before I Disappear and Sam and Amira.
IFC will be doing Before I Disappear in November — and it’s a very low-budget New York City dark comedy. It’s about a junkie stuck watching his 12-year-old niece. And I produced it, it went to SXSW and a few other festivals. The character is the opposite of Stefan, a real antihero, an antagonist, and it’s so nice to do something different. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. And I shot Amira and Sam in two weeks — and it’s another real New York indie. It’s about an Iraqi immigrant girl who’s facing deportation and she falls in love with a soldier who’s just returned. My character Charlie is a Wall Street head honcho, a bit of a shark. But he’s funny. And again, so not Stefan. Both of these roles are not the hero, and that was a really nice thing for me to experience, because I’ve been playing the hero for the past five seasons on the show.

Okay, so one last time, just to be clear: Stelena? No more? Not the endgame?
Okay, so maybe it’s still the endgame. But maybe not. I just don’t see how that will happen. She and Damon are such a thing right now — even I’m rooting for them. But it’s unpredictable. Damon’s sort of dead. Elena’s a mess. Caroline’s around, and cute. Things change. We have to let them change! But I don’t know what Julie has up her sleeve. You never know on this show.

Paul honesty just sounds over it all in that interview. I can't say that I blame him because his character as really gotten shafted. I honestly don't know why they keep pushing D/E when ever since it happened and terribly at that the ratings have plummeted. There are still a few die hards that seem to love D/E still but most of the comments I see and not even from SEers are basically how everyone think D/E ruined the show. It ruined Elena and made Damon uninteresting. To of my favorite repeated comments.

While Im all for not bowing to fan pressure at the same time when something aint woking you fix it not stick with it until the ship goes under.

Screw Elena getting to be human again. Let D/E ride off into the sunset bringing out the worst in each other. I would love for the show to end with D/E miserable together and Stefan getting his humanity back and his life back.

CD needs to shut the hell up. Even though I pretty much agree with her about Stefan/Klaus.. the fact that she would give up Stefan annoys the sht out of me... like we didn't already know who your favourites are

I liked Paul's interview, but he does sound quite resigned.
