S1-2 was amazing for them.

nothing could tear them apart. S3 was difficult but their love was still so powerful "The only thing stronger than your craving for blood is your love for this one girl."

It's so surprising to see how far off edge the writers did to deliver that catering to another fanbase.

Even if S/E never got back together, I would never regret shipping them for this reason. Stefan/Elena are real, not fanservice, and I'm glad that the couple I love were together for the right reasons, because it fit them and the story, rather than trying to please a small part of the audience.
