I didn't realise before this flashback how many people weren't aware that there was a large age gap between the brothers.

We have never been told - but in season 1 it didn't seem to be more than 5 years or so.

In the last flashback it look more like 15

No, it didn't.

Damon is supposed to be 23 or 25, depending on who you ask. Stefan is supposed to be 17.
