Episode Discussion: Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations  JEFF FINALLY REUNITES WITH HIS ESTRANGED FATHER – THE STUDY GROUP HEADS TO SHIRLEY’S FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER – JAMES BROLIN GUEST STARS – The study group heads to Shirley's (Yvette Nicole Brown) for a Bennett-filled thanksgiving, which is so awkward that they immediately begin plotting their escape. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) heads to his estranged father William's house (guest star James Brolin), whom he hasn't seen since he was a child. Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Donald Glover and Jim Rash also star. |

Oh man that was the best Jeff episode ever. The scar story killed me. I really love what the new writers are doing with Jeff.

I enjoyed this episode even if it was a bit light on the laughs. I felt the Jeff/dad story was a bit anticlimactic but it was chock full of great Jeff developments so I can easily overlook that. I'm not sure if the Shirley plot line was dismembered due to time constraints or something but to me if felt incomplete and didn't serve much of a purpose. I loved their family dinner in the study room with the dean.

i cried a bit when Jeff showed his scar to his father. <3 this breaks my heart. and i agree that one of the best Jeff episodes that I've ever seen.
