Updating codecs

I've got a problem. When I try to view certain VMW files I can only hear the sound but there's no picture. I think I have to update my codecs. I have a site where I should get it http://www.free-codecs.com/. The problem is that I have no idea what I'm suppose to download from that site. Can someone help?

Questions and Answers is more for Fan Forum specific stuff. For general computer help, the people at the Webmaster's board are a better source of information. I'll move this over there.

In other words, I haven't got a clue.

K-Lite is a good all inclusive codec pak. Also what version of Media Player are you using?

Thanks for moving it

I have Windows Media Player 10. Is K-Lite that one on page 3?

Yes. That's it. I suggest the "complete" or "full" version. It has the most codecs.

So if I download [ K-Lite Codec Pack 2.49 FULL ] from this page, that should do it?

Well you'll need to install it but that should take care of it.

Well I installed it and it seems to be working But it changed my Windows Media Player layout. Now it looks 'normal' and not like Windows Media Player 10 where you can choose the different elements etc. Is that normal? And can I change it back?

I haven't heard of it doing that before. When you open WMP does it' say that it's V10?

No, a pic comes up where it says 321 (#3 is in red, #2 is in blue and #1 is in green). According to my settings I have Windows Media Player 10, Windows Media Format Runtime and Windows XP Hotfix- KB842773 installed on my computer. Maybe another format came with the codec? Do you know if that Windows XP Hotfix-.... is important? I'm pretty sure I didn't have it before on my computer.
