Yeah, having only one female in the regular cast as opposed to 6 male is weird. But to me the problem is not even about that that is not working, it's the fact that the writers are failing to be able to add a new member on the team without disrupting the original characters' screentime.
I liked Catherine a lot in the beginning, but unfortunately the actress' behavior really tainted the character for me halfway along season 3. So like I mentioned in another thread, I'm glad she is gone. But I do agree, it was unnecessary to add both Grover and Jerry as regulars... they don't just fit in. I LOVE Grover, but I hate the fact that he is part of the task force. I wanted him to be his own leader and lend a hand to 5-0 whenever they needed (just like he was doing last season). Classic example of what was working and shouldn't be messed with (too bad that TPTB saw the need to add him on the team) __________________

Grover is (or was) a leader so I couldn't see him taking more of a subordinate role for too long. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Quote:

I don't believe in "actors missing screen time due to having a family or kids" I think that is BS. The actor/actress know what kind of life when being a actor is and how hard and I don't think its fair to say oh GP or SC has a kid so they not on screen that much because of their kid. Hmm... what about Alex and DDK, they have kids too but I see them on screen a lot (ok not DDK that much) I been hearing it lately on FB and twitter. I not mad but kinda annoy by people keeps saying that.

I mean I definitely agree that they need to focus more on the characters they have but it wouldn't hurt to have more females on their show even in just a recurring situation. Even with just the original four and lets says Max as well that's still four guys and one girl. I'd like to see a bit more female representation in general while still being able to get the core four developed nicely. __________________

^ You better off not knowing... nothing good comes from that and it's all water over the bridge. I can say for myself that I went from a huge fan to actually not withstand the actress, that's how bad it was.
Catherine was a great character that had point in being on the show... the blame for it not working was on the writers. I LOVE that she was on the Navy and had a career that wasn't connected with Steve. Then when she left I liked that she was independent and working for a private company... but mixing up and adding her to the team was not only premature but also bad because like i said before the writers got lost (she had exactly the same skills as Kono, I would rather if she wasn't such a kickass fiel agent and was more intelligence), which even that was screwed up since to add humor there was a scene where she had problems using that computer (c'mon the woman dealt with top of the art technology in the navy and the H50 computer desk gives her a hard time?!) And Lori had the problem because she wasn't easily introduced on the team... she was literally shoved down our throats appearing in every possible scene (and again at the time Kono was so in the background that we would get lucky to have her in a 5 minutes total of the episodes). And she could be interesting being there to put the team on a leach, but after one episode she was already full force accepting Steve's antics. And with that, I get to the point that the same can be said about Grover.... every show needs someone to be opposite of the main characters in an intelligent and argumentative way. And now Grover is in the team and time will tell if he will still do that (but it's not looking good) I would love to have more female characters on the show!!! They're usually my favorites. But they need someone that is not a stereotype (we already have way too many of that in the show) and actually brings something new/different to the table. I liked Jenna... cute, intelligent I could see her the computer person of the team, leaving Chin and Kono free to be more on the field But the problem is still the same, if they aren't able to give a fair share of screentime/SL for the already existing characters, adding more to the mix is bound to fail. The addition of new team members should happen when they have already exhausted the SLs of the ones that are already there. On another note, I do agree with Renji. When you are an actor/actress it's part of the job to be away from the kids or whatever the excuse it is... All day jobs come with that, so it shouldn't be the obvious excuse of why they're having less screentime. It's great that TPTB is flexible enough to allow them this breather, but it all depends on the results and commitment to the project they're working on. WOW.... I ranted a LOT.... sorry __________________

To be honest, I don't understand WHY a fifth member is needed. Why not just concentrate on the members already there and develop SLs for them? Quote:

Yeah I mean ITA that the major problem is the writers inability to handle having more than a four man team. And I do agree that they don't really need a fifth member in the core of things if they want to bring in new characters they could have them in other aspects like Max in autopsy.
I guess all we can do is wait and see where things go with Lou to see if it improves. __________________

^ I think that what they did with Max works for adding a new regular... he is there occasionally, but only to do his ME job and in the team hanging out scenes.... I like characters that aren't put into situations they don't have any business being just for the sake of being on the screen
I'll give more episodes, I think that since it was only the premiere the writers gave us lots of Grover to show that he really is a regular now (I'm wishful thinking), and maybe with time they'll be better in balancing the team Quote:
I loved Jenna... she was cute and had a personality... hated how they ended her arc Yeah, at the time, I don't think a fifth member is necessary because as previously said, they haven't even explored the four they have yet. Steve needs someone to butt heads with him, and it can't be the Governor, it has to be someone in the same level of authority as him. I miss our huge talks, girl!!! __________________

^ Hey Dave!!
Great choice! For starters, Chi is an AMAZING actor!! And his character is also great!!! what is his favorite work so far? Quote:
Ohhh definitely, I mean I hated that she was working with Wo Fat at some point, but at least that made sense... she had hope to see her fiance alive Exaclty!! the Governor is not much for conflict... he always ends up caving in, which for the show makes sense because he can't exactly dismantle the task force... so having someone not as powerful as the governor, but still as high ranked as Steve to disagree with the tactics would've been AWESOME to see. Hope you manage to PM... I really miss you __________________
