She did so well with the scenes she was in....I only wish the "intense" deleted scene hadn't needed to be cut. I thought it really was pivotal in the book - and it would have been a great addition to the Charlie/Candace relationship. She did a beautiful job with such tough subject matter.

I agree so much with you, I never read the book but I think it would have been really important in the movie, although I would have loved more scenes with her and Charlie in general.

I've got about two more chapters left to read in the book, then I'll watch the movie. (I'm one of those weird people who have to read the book first.

) I have to say, Candace is a good name for the character. (For those who haven't read it, Charlie just calls her "my sister" in the novel.) I am also sad that they cut that sequence. I understand why they did, I just wish they hadn't; if only because Nina does such an excellent job with the material.

Books just capture detail that films cannot.

I think the BTS interview said that the scene: 1) pushed the film into an R rating and they wanted the book's audience to be able to see it and 2) pulled the focus away from Charlie. When they're dealing with a short amount of time to tell a story, sometimes they have to make hard cuts.

If you have a chance, watch the extra features, the director is very complimentary of Nina.
