Burn Our History 01-29-2011 11:33 AM

I checked her IMDB profile, and it does say that her birthday is today. So happy birthday to her.

I didn't know she and Craig had birthdays so close together.

Thanks for posting the vid! :D

Burn Our History 02-05-2011 05:45 PM

Thanks for bringing it over.

I think vids always remind me that while they're all badass, I think that Denna is definitely the most bloodthirsty of the Mord'Sith we saw on the show. Cara is fierce, but Denna is ruthless.

That's true. Denna seems like she would stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Burn Our History 02-09-2011 03:56 PM

 She really does.

And I guess if you've read the books, it makes sense because when what happened to her is discussed, it's brutal. It's almost as hard to read as what she does to Richard. Maybe that's why I feel the way I do about her.

It's like...yes, we saw some of what Cara experienced on the show but it just doesn't seem comparable.

Jessica Marais has left Australia to try her luck in the US- you guys better take care of her...:nono:

Why Jessica Quit- from Who Weekly

I clicked the link but the story didn't show up. :look:

I did look at the top 10 Australian actors, and was glad to see her on there. Hopefully she can break into the American entertainment industry.

Yeah, I think they pulled the article after it was posted because they decided to make it the cover story (!) of the next issue. Anyway, I typies for you guys. :) (BTW, the Hugh Sheridan that is quoted is the guy that was in the pap pics of Jess and Craig from 2009 that were posted a while back.)

And yes, this is the kind of thing that makes news in Australia. :look:

WHY JESSICA MARAIS QUIT

Marais's co-star Hugh Sheridan tells WHO why she quit

Jessica Marais's Packed to the Rafters co-star Hugh Sheridan has revealed the actress was under pressure from her US management company to quit the hit drama series for Hollywood.

After signing with United Talent Agency in October 2009- the firm responsible for driving the high-wattage careers of A-listers Jennifer Lopez, Johnny Depp and Harrison Ford- the dual Logie-winner, 26, was being strongly encouraged to try and make a serious attempt to win exposure and success in the US.

"Her management over there has been putting pressure on her for a while to make her move," Sheridan, a close friend of Marais, told WHO. "When you're female there seems to be more of a pressing need to get over there when you're young and make an impact, whereas guys have more longevity in making a career over there. But it was definitely a hard decision for her to make."

Since graduating from NIDA in 2007, the Perth-raised Marais has wasted little time making her mark- as evidenced by lead roles in Rafters, the feature film Two Fists, One Heart, the US fantasy series Legend of the Seeker, and the upcoming horror movie Needle.

"It's time for her to go and share her talents with the rest of the world," says her Rafters co-star Rebecca Gibney. "She's got what it takes, she's going to be huge. Even though she doesn't believe it herself, we all do."

Both Sheridan and Gibney are confident the "strong bond" Marais shares with her fiance and on-screen love interest, James Stewart, 34, will survive the challenge of a long distance relationship. "They're incredible together, they're the best of friends, and they will be fine," says Gibney.

A cover story? That's pretty cool.

And thank you for typing up the article. I am pretty surprised at the suggestion that it's not her idea to move to the US. :look: Though, if I think of how successful she's been in Australia, it would make sense that she'd be more willing to stay there. Especially when the transition may not be fruitful.

SaraHoo! 02-18-2011 01:46 PM

:look: Who knows if she is lucky enough and becomes a breakthrough in US :D

Burn Our History 02-18-2011 04:53 PM

That'd be nice for all fans, I think. Because if she does American films, they're more likely to be released internationally, thus we get to see her beautiful face more often. :)

Well, Australia has a pretty complicated love/hate relationship with its showbiz expats. We tend to give them a hard time until they "make it", and then we're allowed to love them again. The idea that she was pressured to move to the US is going to make her sound more sympathetic than "she's sick of Australia and being on a show that a lot of people really like" (not that I'm suggesting this is what Jess is thinking). And people are really, really attached to the Rafters- when one character died last year, it was all over the media. (The actress was also moving to the US). Jess has been giving a lot of interviews lately where she said she was happy to stay in Australia, she had no sense of needing to rush over to Hollywood, so I guess people are also surprised, even though in hindsight she would have already known she was leaving and was just trying to keep it under wraps).

I think Jess will be fine, if she doesn't find work in Hollywood she will always have a place on Australian TV.

Here's a recent pic :)
