That is exactly the way I interpret it. One would think that after something awful finally comes to an end that you'd be giggles and smiles but you burst emotionally and it's a cry of that was so horrible mixed with thank god I will no longer have to live in fear and my family is safe

It's kinda sad they have to move again though and start all over. But him losing the journal and having to start that all over is pretty funny.
