She was one of Bellamy's militia, she was trained in combat and learned life values from Monty. I trust her to want to keep me alive even though I have little useful skill for their dystopian world and she would protect me.

The thing with Clarke is, she's too smart and pragmatic. I have no skills that would help further the survival plus she'd have no emotional attachment to me, so I don't think I could trust her with my life.

I do think that Clarke is somewhat of a controversial choice but all in all, she’s proven herself to be kind and try to save people who she doesn’t even know, or have not treated her well ... so I think that she still fits the bill in that sense.
