I think it would be rather boring without a good story.

I don't think any triangle on this show will be on the forefront. The mythology/story will be the main plot of the show.

I have seen a couple of them.

One might question why they made up a character for the show and put him into a potential romance with the lead. I think it's got something to do with the fact they were going a different direction than the book and had to force some kind of triangle.
