But you got this reaction because you targeted teenagers and you didn’t think about the consequences of implanting yourself into that fandom because you didn’t actually think of the fandom as anything more than a growing number of admirers to whom you could sell your bull**** sandwich. How irresponsible is it to then turn around and tell them now, after having spent the past year encouraging their devotion to this pairing, that it’s just a show and you wouldn’t be doing your job if you didn’t invoke such strong emotions?

Queer kids don’t need their “emotions invoked” anymore than they already are in their day to day lives. They’re already dealing with loss and isolation, they’re already dealing with rejection and bigotry. Teasing, bullying, threats against their lives. At home, at school, online, some of them are getting hit from all sides. This show was their escape, a story they could turn to and were inspired to rely on."
