I really loved her moment of self-doubt. As much as we love the Raven Reyes who's all, "I'm awesome" and "The death wave can kiss my ass," it's great (and necessary) to see a moment of vulnerability from her, too. |

Raven has been resenting Clarke for a while now and I think her not showing a lot of emotions towards having to leave Clarke kind of showed that. She still appreciates what Clarke did, the BR scene at the end showed that. But to me it's about more than Clarke, it's about characters having their own journeys. In season 2 Monty and Raven were so underused and most of the time just used when their skills were needed, often to help Clarke.
Clarke is still the lead but you can have a lead and still give supporting characters their own story lines and journeys, season 4 was the strongest in that regard. __________________

You think Raven has been resenting Clarke? Hmm, I know she's been frustrated with her at points, particularly in season four, but I never got the sense that it was resentment.
And yes, a show definitely needs to give all its characters storylines, but I actually feel like The 100 does a great job of that. That's something I'm actually going to talk about when I post some full season thoughts. |

I can see at the beginning of the season that Raven was resentful of Clarke's actions, but not of Clarke herself necessarily. If that makes any sense whatsoever.
I'm very glad that Raven got to shine more this season. While I feel like Lindsey had some great acting material last season (especially as RavALIE), this season felt like more growth for Raven as a character. We got to see her a bit more in the forefront this time around. I imagine that Raven will have been even more important in the storyline of Team Space throughout the time jump as there is such a small group who probably share quite a bit of responsibility. So hopefully we get to see that in season five. What should we use for the title? __________________

I get what the article writer is trying to convey but I don't agree with some of his/her points either. And the scenarios she is describing are not exactly comparable either ... they didn't know if waiting for Clarke (in 3x14) would mean imminent death/them not being able to defeat ALIE. In 4x13, they knew for a fact that choosing to stay longer for her meant that they would die for sure.
And both Bellamy and Raven - in that moment - chose to save themselves, so I didn't necessarily see that as Bellamy choosing Raven over Clarke. I would have done the same in that situation, it was the only logical thing to do, taking aside whatever personal feelings that BR have when it comes to Clarke. And IMO, she definitely felt something over having to leave Clarke behind ... maybe not as much as Bellamy but I don't agree that she felt zero emotions over having to shut that door and leave. Especially given that Clarke is staying behind to get the plan done and save them, even though she can't save herself. Having said that, Raven rightfully does feel resentment towards Clarke particularly at the beginning of the season when she felt that she was being shut out and that Clarke was making frustrating decisions. And I do agree that the narrative places Clarke over everyone else sometimes and it's great that this season in particular, that other characters like Raven, are allowed to shine more and showcase themselves separate from who they are to Clarke. Many good points made by everyone here, responding properly later when I have more time. __________________

I mean, clearly Raven does feel upset over leaving Clarke behind. Okay, yeah, it's not on the same level that Bellamy does, but just look at that ending scene between her and Bellamy to see how bad she feels. And how grateful.

Raven and Clarke have definitely had some spirited disagreements in the past but I wouldn't describe it as resentful. I think they're just both very strong characters with strong opinions but there is definitely a lot of mutual respect there.
In the 3x15 episode where Raven didn't want to wait for Clarke I interpreted that more as Raven being frustrated at the idea of doing nothing rather than her frustration being directed at Clarke. And I'm in agreement that this season was great at giving other characters, especially Raven, their own storylines |

I think Raven did resent Clarke a bit this season, it was probably also a reflection of how she felt about everything they did and she took it out on Clarke but through out the season she disagreed with most of her chocies and I definitely think there was some resentment there. __________________

Raven was just being logical in that moment ... they were all doomed if they didn't leave then, but I don't think that she had zero hesitation about leaving Clarke behind. Her tone to Bellamy would have been different then. And agreed, this girl is the smartest cookie and I wish that she'd just believe that. Quote:
And I just think that it's a complex dynamic that she has with Clarke, they respect each other but also clash sometimes because they're very different people at their core. But you need that in your team, people who don't sugarcoat things and will call you on your crap, so that's important IMO. Raven gave Clarke a lot of truth bombs especially earlier in the season. __________________

Yeah, I don't know, I'm still just not getting a vibe of resentment, necessarily. Frustration, for sure, but . . . I don't know, I guess I'll have to see if my interpretation changes when I rewatch.
I actually think an episode like, say, 4x03 really showed us how Raven came to empathize with Clarke a bit more this season. |

I feel like I may pick up a feeling of resentment on my rewatch, but I don't know. I can definitely see how you saw that, Paulina and Sarah, and I'm glad you're sharing your interpretations so that I can see it from different angles.
So like... having read the spoilers for the finale, I was 99.9 percent sure Raven would make it to the finale at least, but I was still so nervous when she was given herself the EMP thing with the ice bath. That was so intense! __________________

I didn't read any spoilers, so I prepared myself for her dying but after episode 11 I knew se would survive this season. I'm still not over how amazing this season was for her.
