You know, I heard that there's a big fandom outcry against this interview, but I don't understand what's wrong with it. It was mostly spot on.

I really like that Kim has recognized that sometimes (a lot of the time) Clarke comes off as someone who self-righteously makes decisions for everyone and that the writers actually needed to address this and show us that Clarke actually does feel self-doubt and guilt about all the death and destruction she's caused. But at the same time... even though I can see it from her perspective, at the end of the day I still want to see her behavior change. I don't think a person can truly claim to be regretful or to have grown if they're still acting the same way. If she's feeling guilty, she needs to reflect that in real life choices, not just in her depressing mind space.

Like even the concept of Clarke needing to save "her people" is off to me because it's sort of condescending and presumptuous. Why is she always taking responsibility for all of these other grown adults? Nobody asked her to do this. Nobody put all of these people in Clarke's care. She's not their mom. I get that Kim likes the idea of Clarke being this self-starter who drives her own story and gets things done, but I don't think Clarke's background supports that at all. There's no reason why a random teenage girl should have just taken it upon herself to make decisions for the future of the human race. Like the impulse to have that kind of female character is good. But it doesn't make sense at all that it's this one girl. I think this is the root problem of the show and it's coming from Kass Morgan's books (which are not good at all.) So it's unfortunate that they're stuck trying to take this random teenage girl character into dynamic, high stakes situations that she has no business being in. They should have scrapped the whole teen thing and just had adult prisoners sent to the ground in S1 and then we could have had a Diyoza type with an actual complex backstory of military leadership and terrorism to draw from, which would have been a thousands times better.

I'm pretty sad that we didn't get to see an exploration of Clarke and Wells' relationship and what they meant to each other. They were the original "platonic soulmates" on the show and it's too bad they changed their minds and killed him off.

The Pauna jump scare 100% should have happened.

And shout out to the fact that Clarke totally is that person who betrays people when it suits her needs! Madi is her most important person right now and she chose Madi over every single other person she ever knew last season. So it's good that Clarke is worrying about that in her mindspace. Kim points out the question of your actions being who you are. If Clarke says "that's not who I am" but it is totally true that she does it anyway... sorry, girl. At a certain point, you are the result of the choices you make. If you choose to betray your friend and leave him to die because he's not as important to you as your daughter... then that's who you are.
