Kane's character is developing a little more. They are actually showing his softer side.

I'd imagine they would have to. Villians are like that for a reason, and there is always more layers than appears.

I loved him in lost, but here not so much. I agree, his character is developing into a more complex character instead of the typical one dimensional villain.
