At first I was kind of thrown off by Bellamy’s line about Murphy wanting to be the hero, and that’s still not a word I would associate with Murphy. But come to think of it, in seasons 3 and 4, he did get chances to step up and help save the day. Showing up in the nick of time in 3x15, going back up to the top of the tower with Bellamy, pumping Ontari’s heart, defending Emori from the Grounder in 4x07, bringing back the generator alone and going back to rescue Monty in 4x13 . . . he doesn’t necessarily say it out loud, but Murphy does enjoy getting to do stuff like this. Even stealing the medicine for that little girl in 4x03 . . . sure, he had an ulterior motive, but deep down, I think he does like doing the right thing when he’s able to.

I think that Bellamy sees some of himself in Murphy. He’s been there, wanting to be the hero but feeling worthless instead. So his insistence that Murphy say that about himself stems from his having experienced a similar self-loathing or personal dissatisfaction.
