Eliza did great in both scenes, the first one especially. The lip tremble ... she conveyed what Clarke was feeling in that moment so well.

Clarke is very strong, I might not always agree with her but she was 17 when they sent her down to the ground, she had so much thrown at her but she never backed down. I wish we got to see her struggle a bit more though, she's been through so much, it would be ok to see her break down a bit more than we did. I sometimes feel like the show didn't allow Clarke to show too much of her vulnerable side.

I feel like season 5 was showing us some good vulnerability early on, but then 5x10-5x12 . . . I just really struggle with the way they wrote her in those episodes.

Eliza is a fan of doing the lip tremble during emotional scenes. I have a LOT of mixed feelings about that 5x12 scene, but she was the standout of the three actresses involved to me.

I do wish that we got to see a bit more of Clarke's struggles post-Praimfaya, and also those years of growing with Madi, too. I think the audience would understand Clarke's whole goal of keeping Madi safe if they saw that bond really develop more.

Agreed on both accounts and I think that's always been an issue for me, since season 1. From the time that Wells died and they never showed her grieving over her own best friend, SMH. She's strong but even the strongest break and are vulnerable sometimes, so it would be good if we got to see that part of Clarke sometimes. And Clarke's desperation over keeping Madi safe would have made a lot more sense if we got to see how she bonded deeply with Madi from the start and developed an unbreakable bond that she'd do anything for her.

That's the problem with having a short season and so many characters and plots, there's just not enough proper time spent on things like characters getting to really live in their feelings. Not enough time to show instead of tell with things like Clarke/Madi's bond. But we need those things so we can fully connect with the characters/relationships/plots.

I don't think the length of a season necessarily influences whether characters and relationships will be properly developed. It's all about the writing and planning. I found season 5 very lacking when it comes to character development and interactions, it was very plot driven.

Spot on. I feel like it's not so much a time issue but what they actually did with that time ... which was severely disappointing. It was plot driven but funnily enough, the plot didn't move very much over the season either. So it makes it even worse that characterisation of the core characters (especially Clarke) were "sacrificed" for nothing.
