Read the entire Gone series, but I thought it was so poorly written (though honestly, that could be just my translation)

What's it about?

I'm reading 5th wave and girl on the train right now.

It's about a town where all the adults (or rather anyone over the age of 15) disappears. And the kids left there are trapped under this dome with no way out. There's a supernatural element, because many of them start to develop powers. But the element I prefer is just them trying to survive in a world without adults.

It sounds corny, but . . . I don't know, I liked it.

I've had a lot of students who have read that series and said they preferred it to The Hunger Games.

If you're thinking of that Under the Dome show . . . I feel like it blatantly stole its plot from the Gone series.

I think my biggest problem with the Gone series was mostly that it was clearly targeted for a younger audience.
I liked the storyline, just not the writing

You think it was targeted towards a younger audience?

I guess I see that towards the start, but as it went on . . . There's some stuff in there that I feel really weird about letting my 13 year old students read!

Well, as it went on it became crazier and crazier if I recall right and I started skimming
TBH, if I don't like a book but finish it anyway (because I can't just Not finish a book/series), I don't remember much about it.

I just remember that the writing style seemed to be targeted towards younger audiences all the sentences were so simple. But that's about all I remember from the entire series Oh, and that I didn't like the main

True, it did start becoming crazier and crazier.

I liked the first book in the series best.

Paula, this sounds exactly like my issue with Divergent. When there's a paragraph full of simple sentences, it makes me want to mark the book up and combine the sentences. Or when several sentences in a row start with the word I or whatever. There are writing choices where that's done for impact but when it happens a lot in a novel then the writer is pretty terrible.

Have you guys read The Maze Runner series? I've watched the 2 movies but was so annoyed with some of the stuff in the second one that I'm not sure if I should even try to read the books.

The Maze Runner were also books I didn't bother buying
I couldn't get over the made up slang they were using (they use a bit of it in the movies as well, but not as much as in the books).
Read the first two books, never made it to the third one, just wasn't interesting enough.

The movie changes are very big as well. But I like the movies better.

I don't know, maybe I've just gotten "over" YA-books?
I do still like the Selection series though and I've read some other new series I like. Talk about something I like
