That's the other possibility I guess we'll find out eventually

Nadia will be at a Comic Con event in Poland this weekend, not sure which day since it'll last from Thursday to Sunday.

As for the filming schedule, might mean anything, either more episodes or just longer production breaks. Do we know anything about their budget for next season?

Thanks for the update, Paulina. I'll add it to the OP later.

Gosh, I hope that it's not just because of longer production breaks. Unless the other option is this season being the last one, in which case I'll take the longer production breaks.

Not sure about the budget though.

Ahh I saw that too, lovely article praising the cliffhanger.

Quote:
But now we reach The 100, The CW’s post-apocalyptic drama you should not be sleeping on. I’ve talked about the show many times, how it starts out like a young adult drama for the first few episodes, but it quickly elevates itself into something else entirely, and it remains one of the best sci-fi shows on TV.

I won’t sum up the last four seasons, but in brief, the few remaining survivors of earth are now forced to hide from a global wave of radiation caused by the meltdowns of dozens of nuclear power plants across the world. One group hides in a bunker while another tries to fly to a space station, and both groups should be able to return to the surface in five years once the radiation clears.

Clarke, the show’s main protagonist, doesn’t make it to the space shuttle in time, as she’s busy trying to activate power to the station so her friends can actually land there and open the doors.

Here’s where it would have been easy to create a bad cliffhanger. Clarke’s power display readout shorts out, and she screams in frustration, thinking she’s failed. In space, the entire group is running out of air and the station still doesn’t have power. Everyone starts choking. Cut to black.

This did happen, almost exactly like this, except after the cut, there was still more to come after the commercial break. We see the station’s power going on and a prolonged sequence where the group has to get the oxygen flowing before they die inside the station instead of outside. Clarke, meanwhile, makes it back to a mini-bunker, but not before her skin starts bubbling from the radiation. This also could have been another cliffhanger, a slightly better one, but still the show presses on.

Where we finally end is an “epilogue” type finale where we see Clarke (with a stylish new haircut) more than six years later. She’s driving around in the one section of the earth that wasn’t totally fried by radiation, trying to contact the space station to see why her friends haven’t returned, even though it’s been safe to come down for a year now. She says how she hasn’t been able to excavate the people in the bunker either, their fates unknown. The final scene has a spaceship descending from the sky, but it isn’t their ship. It’s something else. It has a corporate logo and says “Prisoner Transport” on the side. And then that’s where we cut to black.

Why does this work as a finale?

- While the show could have easily left Clarke’s fate unknown, or implied she died, The 100 went out of its way to ensure that out of everyone, we knew she survived. This is the polar opposite of the Barry Allen situation we found ourselves in this week.

- The fates of the rest of the cast are unknown, but we’re not expected to believe everyone is dead. This creates enough of a sense of mystery to keep everyone coming back next year to figure out what everyone did for five years and where they are now, but we don’t have to suspend disbelief and assume Clarke is the only one left alive. The show is not implying that at all.

- The show introduces a genuinely interesting new mystery in its closing moments, indicating the direction of the new season. Other people? A new spaceship? What the hell is going on? But that was also something for super fans to latch onto, as those who remember way back years ago recall a conversation about how anti-radiation “night blood” was developed for prisoners sent out to mine asteroids before the earth fell. Now it seems that after a number of years, some of those prisoners (and their guards?) have finally returned home as a new “faction” that will probably be up to no good. It’s a perfect tease of the coming season.

In short, The 100 doesn’t try to fool its audience with camera tricks and it doesn’t think they’re stupid by pretending they’ve killed the lead character or the rest of the cast. I have seen way too many shows end on really dumb notes, and it was nice to have this finale as a breath of fresh air, doing almost everything right. I hope other programs take note, and learn from The 100’s example. And naturally, I can’t wait for next year.

And it's Forbes, not too shabby.

The 100. Hands down the best show I've ever watched and I'm not usually a TV person. SO GOOD!

It looked like Arrow was going to win with a landslide the last I checked, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

Going to post more reviews soon.
