If they had executed it better, I would say maybe you’re on to something there, Caroline. Unfortunately, I feel like fans’ headcanons about season 5 was ultimately way better than whatever TPTB thought of. Like I’ve read fan theories and metas which were written better than the actual Bellarke story this season, IMO. Especially during the middle half of the season.

Clarke’s whole storyline in the last episodes was done pretty badly. You guys know I always try to see the best in everything Bellamy and Clarke related, but there’s no way around that for me. They just needed to sprinkle in a few more moments. Have her looking sadly at one of her own drawings of Bellamy in 5x11. Have her flinch or something when she hears Bellamy’s name. And do NOT have her shock-collar Madi. That was totally unnecessary.

However, as I’ve said before, 5x13 did end things well for her this season. I think season 6 just needs less Echo, more Clarke, tbh.

But when it comes to Bellamy’s season 5 storyline, I can’t really complain. Except about 5x06.

Regarding that Bellarke manip in the first page from the movie To the Boys I Loved Before: if only.

Beautiful gifsets everyone! Those ones that talk about 'almost' and 'maybe', are full of feels. I also really liked that recent one with the A Thousand Years lyrics, especially the part where it showed beautiful flash back moments of the first four seasons. It was very well done.

I too agree with those who mentioned that it would have felt rushed if Bellarke did become romantic at the end of Season 5. For one, the time span for that season was probably 3 weeks tops. Definitely not enough time for Bellarke to happen after just reuniting from 6 years apart and learning each other again. As well as with such a heavy plot keeping the two of them busy, and while Bellamy is still attached to someone he loves and had to be absent from his side for more than half of the season (which I ain't complaining :look:). It would have felt unrealistic with all that to consider.
I had really high hopes at the beginning of the season, but then when the season was turning out so plot heavy and Bellarke having issues of their own and with each other, it wouldn't have fit.
Anyway, at least I'm grateful that we got them being in the same place and sharing scenes for most of the season. Especially having the radio calls revealed and them being at a good place again and having that beautiful ending.
ETA: You could probably say that this Season was really about whether Bellarke are able to find their way back to each other or not, after such a life altering experience. The effects of being apart for so long, their personal changes and whether all that will prevent them from reconnecting. Testing if their bond was able to survive after all that.

Like many of you though, the fact that Clarke didn't show much worry or regret for Bellamy's life after leaving him in Polis, that was done bad I feel. At first, I thought she just built up this wall or shut down her emotions in regards to him, but deep down had a smidgen of hope. But then when she was talking to Echo in 5x12, about Bellamy in past tense, I was like 'Whaaat?!' It felt like she had already easily accepted that he was dead and quickly moved on. That was disappointing. I mean, it was great that Clarke looked relieved when Echo told her Bellamy was still alive, but honestly, I was a bit surprised she actually cared since she spent the past 2 episodes not even thinking about him and having lost hope for his life.

Ok, have to sleep now lol.

Stories like these need emotions in them so they can connect with the audience and make the audience understand the character's thought process. We didn't know Clarke was doing things because she believed Bellamy was gone until we got that look on her face when Echo said he's still alive. It's not like we were asking for 5 minutes of mopey Clarke here.

I agree with you guys about the writing for Clarke's character in S5, it's been awful, I hate how badly the writers had written Clarke for much of S5, she started out good, but then the writers really ruined her in the later episodes, leaving Bellamy and the others behind in Polis, her shocking Madi etc, Clarke has made some very poor and questionable decisions in S5. I have to admit that even as a Clarke fan, she really annoyed me in the later episodes. Until the writers eventually redeemed her character at the very end in the finale, I was on the verge of really starting to hate Clarke in S5, if they hadn't redeemed Clarke in the finale, I probably would no longer be a Clarke fan...so she came very close to losing a fan in me this season...sadly I think she did lose some fans this season, and so did Octavia. But I'm glad she was redeemed in the end by helping to save everyone, they all would've died without Clarke's help, so because of her redemption in the finale, I forgive Clarke for all the stupid mistakes and bad decisions she made in S5.

But as I mentioned before, even though Bellamy has forgiven Clarke and Bellarke has reconciled in the finale, but there's still some unresolved issues between them, and they really need to have a serious conversation in S6 about everything that happened between them in S5, in order for them to truly move on from the past. I feel that their reconciliation was rushed in the finale and they didn't really get the chance to really address it properly. So I hope in S6 they will have that chance to sit down and really have a long serious discussion together to truly put their past differences behind them and move forward to the future together. I also tweeted this to Jason:

I hope he sees the tweet and make it happen.

Thanks for posting all the Bellarke gifs!

Great points, girls. I will comment more when I have the time :) but I really really hope that we get some indication of a great Bellarke season ... the fandom needs it, I feel.

I agree with you April, such Little Moments with showing Clarke caring About Bellamy would have changed so much and wouldnt have taken much screentime. It would have been better. Please apply for a Job on the Writers Team, thank you.

Im currently Living through S1 Nostalgia while the Friend watches the Show for the first Time and look what she wrote About 1x09 (Unity Day), with the Finn/Bellamy/Bridge thing:

Quote:

Which is probably what Finn was most upset with - since there's pretty obvious subtext of jealousy, after Clarke told him in the last episode that she trusted Bellamy. Finn also made it clear earlier that she thought Clarke was starting to be too influenced by Bellamy and his way of thinking.

I'm glad, however, that at least that jealousy was kept as subtext, because I'm getting fed up with how every time Finn comes within an arms reach of Clarke or talks to him, they show a close-up of Raven being jealous.
She not only sees their chemistry (shes not a huge shipper normaly, not that i know), but she also analyzed their Dynamic in Season 1 with interesting thoughts:

Quote:

The pairing that actually has most chemistry IMO are Bellamy and Clarke - even though they're the ones who haven't had sex or made out, but the scene where they talked about the Unity Day party was full of eye-f&*#%#$ and smiling at each other. He told her she should go and relax and and have some fun because she deserved it, and she told him he did, too, and he was like "I'll have fun when the Grounders come", and she just replied with a huge smile - which was kind of weird, since "The only fun I'll have is when we start shooting at and fighting with our enemies" doesn't strike me as something to smile and flirt over. :/ Which brings me to something that I'm not sure how to feel about - Finn did have a point that Clarke at times is starting to sound like Bellamy and adopt some of his views on violence as the only sure answer and the only way to fight for survival. On the other hand, that may be an exaggeration - she may sound like that just relative to Finn, who has very hardcore pacifist views, and she did try her best to negotiate peace with Anya, the Grounder leader. So it may be just that she's holding a middle position. But even though Lincoln referred to her as the leader of the 100, rather than Bellamy, that's really more of a shared position between two of them (and Finn is not seen as one of the leaders), and, while I was thinking we'd see Clarke and Bellamy influencing each other, so far it just seems like she's influenced by him and moving more towards his views, and he hasn't changed his - which makes the whole dynamic feel a bit unbalanced.

^ I love that.

Back quickly to if Jason was planning a Bellarke romantic ending in season 5 should the series have concluded... I never would have suspected he'd have them in present day getting together romantically. Unfortunately, he's still with Echo after all. I suspect should it have happened (again, based on clues in season 5) we would have received a flash forward years into the future (well after they all woke up) with them together romantically. I would have gladly taken it since the series was over and at least they got together (even if we wouldn't have seen the process). But I would have smiled widely seeing them in a peaceful environment maybe even with a little child or two next to them. Cheesy. I don't care, I would have loved it.

I can see these two points and thats why i think clarke could be very ashamed and guilty for leaving bellamy and then she will finally see she is in love

bc what about susan said i totally agree it was a good thing clarke and bellamy sharing scenes it really could be worst and the writers could choose another direction with them apart but they choose them together they choose clarke knowing the new bellamy and the fact clarke are acting out of character leaving him probably happened for a bigger cause

think about this gifset, clarke had always a standard (and the love for bellamy is implicit but she never figured out she loves him by this standard) and then she breaks it for the first time

(she left him before bc of lexa but she never left him to die) i dont know its just a theory I bet they will sustain the platonic (annoying) thing but they will invest in her love for bellamy now and not the otherwise like book one (when bellamy´s love was always obvious)

I only read the beginning, ending, and Bellarke bits of that, but it’s great.

Yvonne, if I wrote for the show, we’d have to be on a more risqué network.

Nice drawing.

Wait to move to another network for when we have romantic canon Bellarke is fine though.
