Headgear is new to me. I dont think dentists do them in the UK. Braces, yes we have those.

Lucky you. I got them when I was 14 - I had a horrible overbite. And people were really mean to me about it, , so I guess that's why I never saw the humor in Cate getting 'cracked on' for the headgear. It's like a no win situation, if she didn't get picked on for that, it probably would have been for her teeth.

I had braces in the 6th grade ,and got them off during 8th grade (11-13 years old). A lot of people had braces in my school (including popular kids); so nobody was cruel about, but nobody had head gear either. I also had glasses, but I got contacts around the same time I got my braces off.

When I got my braces, anything having to do with the braces was done at the orthodontist's office. That's why I never had a problem with Lux saying she's only been to the dentist twice, yet she'd had braces- two totally separate things. The most my dentist did for the braces was recommend them and send my original x-ray's to the orthodontist's office, and change how the dental hygenist cleaned my teeth with them on. The dentist I go to, it's mostly been to have my teeth cleaned, the occasional cavity filling (more so when I was little), and pulling rest of a molar that had broken in 2.

Ah okay. I never really knew the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist thought it was all the same thing but now makes sense that Lux said she had only been to the dentist twice yet she had braces.

Yeah, an orthodontist is like a specialist in the field. Kind of like when you have a regular physician but they can refer you to other doctors ... like an allergist or a dermotologist (skin specialist).

Yeah, it was the overbite that they cracked on (they'd use names like Bucky Beever, Wallrus etc.), but then I'd get the random few after the braces went on who would crack on that instead.

I love how their relationship grew, in Season 2 Lux just got on my nerve with her treatment to Cate though...always using the sympathy card to get a way with stuff was not cool. Cate did wrong but she was trying to make up for it, she couldn't ever make it better when Lux always tells her everything she's done wrong. I understand why Lux was that way though but...yeah it was so annoying.

I love how their relationship grew though.

Ya you do get Lux's side of it. She was hurt by Cate all her life and that doesn't just go away, that will always be there. She could forgive Cate, but that fact that Cate abandoned her will always be there. Though Cate was trying and that had to speak for something, she cared about Lux and she wanted to do what was right and Lux should have been easier on her. Lux always dreamed of having her mom back and she got that dream so she shouldn't have been so resentful

I get what you're saying, but at the same time seeing how much better the early part of her childhood could have been had Cate and Baze kept her had to hurt/be infuriating. That's why I could never get behind it when people said she still thought her life was as bad as it was in foster care. I think she realized how good it was when Cate and Baze got her back, and started playing the "what if" game (knowing how much Cate and Baze both love her, and seeing how quickly Baze turned his life around after she came around).

If I had to guess, if another character (Jack, Ellen, Laverne, etc.) asked Cate, Baze, or Lux all of them would probably say they wished they'd never placed Lux/been placed for adoption*.

* My aunt was around Cate, Baze, Laverne, and Grant's ages (probably closer to Laverne's) when she had (and kept) my cousin and she's a better mother than some people (most of the parents on Supernanny) who became mothers at an age when it was "socially acceptable".
