Did you know that the main theme of V was supposed to be about 'blind devotion':



Did you still see something like this last season? I certainly didn't. I also think that with Father Jack's storyline being so deeply tied into the originally intended main theme of the series, your initial guess that we would see Father Jack come full circle with his faith by the end of the series would have probably come to pass under the original direction. It would have been a logical conclusion to his original arc.

Also posting this Jeffrey Bell quote from an old TV Guide article:



And what did SR do after he got creative control of the show? He introduced a soldier past for Jack. He did have Jack pick up a gun and had him shoot Visitors. He depriested him and was clearly intending to turn him into a full blown soldier. Oh SR, you really loved to dismantle Bell and Peter's vision, didn't you?

Yup, further proof that the original 'paths' intended for most of the characters was torn down and set way off course.
