When did Friends "jump the shark"?

To me, it was never the same after Season 7. What do you guys think? Did it "jump" earlier? Later? Maybe you don't think it ever did. Come and post about the quality of Friends as I'd love to get some other points of view

Early season 10. I can barely stomach Friends up until the Last One. It was so in-your-face humor, the kinda insulting humor that you expect off Ren and Stimpy, not a show who's humor used to be obvious, but not YOU HAVE TO LAUGH WE JUST MADE A JOKE funny.

Plus, Joey at least was too fast to get over the Rachel thing. I mean, I know it only lasted a week, and maybe it didn't mean much to Rachel, but you would've figured it would been something to Joey.

Season 7, hands down.

All those stunt-casting celebrities with basically a filler story (Winona Ryder, Gabrielle Union, Susan Sarandon, Jason Alexander, Denise Richards), the "super-sized" episodes. It was getting its behind kicked by Survivor, and rightfully so. The show had no direction, other than Monica's wedding... and if you're not big on Mondler, what else is there to watch? Even the clipshow was really bad (and lazy) when more than half of the clips were from Everybody Finds Out. It had a good cliffhanger, but Season 7 sucked (even worse than season 9).

The thing is we don't know how much time had elapsed between Ross's Tan when they broke up and the Cake when they're not together anymore. It could've been a couple weeks (maybe even a month) that went by in between those two episodes. It's not like Ross and Rachel Take A Break to Morning After, where it was the next day and it showed that on the screen.

Really? I loved Season 7. Every season had a bunch of guest-stars and Season 7 had some of the best, IMHO. Monica and Chandler had really terrific storylines throughout, plus the Rachel/Tag relationship was cute. I loved the return of Janice and Rachel turning 30 and Phoebe learning to ride a bike. Season 7 was just another breath of fresh air and I fell in love with Friends all over again. To each, his/own though

For me, when Rachel got pregnant. It became boring and was never as good again.

I couldn't agree more. I loved the "Rachel is pregnant" cliffhanger, but the following episodes just didn't do it for me.

i thought towards the end season 7 on, it seemed to change and seem more forced and the characters got really extreme, i still liked it up till the end, but i think (eventhough i so didn't want it to end!!) if they'd continued the show any furthur it would have been too drawn out..
i prefer the earlier seasons definately but i do like them all

That's exactly how I felt once Season 8 started. The show was starting to get drawn out.

Season 9 is when it started to go downhill. I greatly disliked the season 8 cliffhanger, and after that the show seemed to loose some of its greatness. The writers seemed to bring the characters out to extremes, and some storylines were handled badly in my opinion. The show seemed to be getting drawn out for too long.

I'm going to with Season 9. For me, I loved Rachel's pregnancy, I thought it was written really well and acted perfectly, too. Season 8 is easily one of my favorites-- so Season 9 was such a drop after that.

I love season 7, but maybe I am bias because I'm a Mondler lover. [i]shrugs shoulders[/b]

Anyway. I think it jumped season 9. I like season 8 with Rachel pregnant and more grown up but I didn't like season 8's cliffhanger and season 9 felt a bit off from the other seasons. Although, it did redeam itself with Monica and Chandler's infertility/adoption storyline and Phoebe chosing Mike and finally have a serious relationship..
Even though I miss seeing new episodes and was sad when it ended I think they definatly went out at the right time, while on top and still really loved.

I actually thought that the Phoebe/Mike storyline was one of the worst this show ever cooked up (it's pretty much second to the whole "shark porn" episode). Mike was way too dull. JMHO.

I'd have to say Season 9 is when it started going downhill. In the beginning, it seemed like it was going to be the final season, but then when there was a 10th added on, they had to throw in the whole Joey/Rachel storyline. I just absolutely hated it. Season 9 is easily my least favorite season.

Ah, yes, the Rachel/Joey storyline. That's another one I'll never forgive the writers for forcing on us.

I think the show was always at it's best. Season 9 was one of the funnier seasons & one of the best in my Opinion. Although i do have a problem with the way Chandler became. Chandler started out as the funny Smart-ass. But he ended up being a bit girly & mean.
