And just wanted to post the quote that made me came up with this title, it's from Rachel in season 4:
"You know how Ross and I were on again, off again, on again, off again? I guess I just figured that somewhere down the road, we would be on again."

That and of course the fact that they did ended up together again

It just seemed that they both always thought somewhere in the back of their mind that they would get back together at some point

Like also when Ross said he didn't want to ruin any chance of this happening by dating her sister.
