Ah I missed a lot! Ok first, great recap starryeyes! (and I have to say that I love that it seems like Rachel, Joey, and Chandler are all wearing the same sunglasses ).

Quote:
and Rachel agrees with Joey. They were always on the same wavelength
Remember "homoerectus"?

Quote:
Looking at the pattern of how Joey treated Rachel, it came across as pure and selfless love to me, and that's one of the things I realized about the pairing that make it so great.
Yea, I loved how in TOW Rachel is Late (admittedly, my memory is a bit fuzzy on this so I COULD be wrong), when she was getting irritable about passing her due date, he was the only one who wasn't really complaining about her attitude and behavior. But again, I might be wrong.

Quote:
I couldn't agree more, he always put HER & her happiness first, it was never 'well I love her, so she should be with me' it was 'I love her, so I want her to be happy'
And when in "TOW Rachel has a Baby (part 1)", I can't remember what the gang was discussing (it's 1 am, don't blame me), but Joey said he would just take her in his arms and hold her. You're right, it was just the way he loved her that was so sweet.

he always supported her in any way that he could & you're so right about after she rejected him, he didn't go down the road of trying to win her over, he accepted it the best he could & continued to do what he'd always done; put her first
Exactly! I think it's awesome how much they back each other up in happiness and their careers - Rachel encouraged Joey a lot with his acting and she convinced him to do the magazine interview for publicity, and Joey encouraged Rachel to quit her Central Perk job and start working in fashion, then set up an interview for her - just like Monica and Chandler did. And I agree, Joey did put her first many times.

Yes! There's a cut scene earlier in that episode of Rachel and Joey at the convention. I love how Joey and Rachel both come up with a movie idea on the spot. They've always had a playful quality in their interaction, and I think that shows in here:

Quote:
Joey: I'm doing research for a role in a new movie about pharmacists.

Rachel: Yeah, yeah, it's called "Prescription for Love"

Joey: *Looks impressed* Nice!

Rachel: *Winks*
So cute and funny.

LOL, yeah, Joey doesn't complain about her, but when Rachel is being cranky and self-absorbed and says, "I'm not invisible!" Joey says, "Nope, definitely not invisible," to which she has no response. Then he walks allll the way around her to avoid her. It's moments like these that make me think they wouldn't have fought a lot in a relationship, because Joey didn't feed into Rachel's quick temper that much. He balanced her emotional, snippy side out very well.

ETA: Oh man, I just re-read this and I totally didn't mean that Joey knew how to control Rachel or keep her in check. I meant that I thought their personalities complemented each other. I should have worded that better!

Yes, I love that line! And at the end of the episode, when Rachel was crying and worried about being alone, he did hold her, even though it was just comforting her as a friend, and he extended a promise to her without wanting anything in return. Just... amazing

I so agree, their personalities do really compliment each other! I think they'd work so well as a couple

I remember the cut scene - they have the same sense of humor I think that's really important too!

& I love how we can all see that they have a pure, sefless love

Thanks, starryeyes!

Thought I should share this early promo I found recently:

Love how Jen says, "So?" and Matt says, "Exactly!" and how Matt laughs while looking at Jen. Courteney and Matthew are great in it, too.

That video! If you watch the first few seconds of it (when the camera is panning over each pairing) with the volume turned down, it looks so ~dramatic. Also, the hair! The blurriness! So early 90's.

I loved that too. It showed the depth of his feelings for her without him saying it, even if he didn't mean it that way.

They should have written a movie together.

No problem! I was happily surprised when I first saw it.

Agreed I love the split second after Courteney says "Not doing this," and Matthew glances down at her like, "What?" And yes, Jen + Matt in the vid are love.

LOL, yes, exactly! It's hilarious.

Totally. Matt did all these little things in Joey's arc that genuinely conveyed his feelings for Rachel. It was a lot of showing, not telling, and that's why I grew to appreciate those moments.

Haha, for real! From what else they said about it, it would have included usual rom-com clichés (Rachel said her character would take off her glasses and suddenly be sexy), and porn (Joey said his nudity in the pretend movie "is so not tasteful," and Rachel nodded.) They would've had fun with it

LOL, I tried my hand at a poster:

Don't worry, I won't quit my day job. I didn't even want to try making a cast and crew section, so I just stole it from another poster

I'd watch it, too! It would either be so bad, it's good (like many of Joey's projects), or I would end up liking it a lot, like "13 Going on 30". That was a cute movie.

1x09 - TOW Underdog Gets Away

Joey shows up wearing makeup.

Everyone laughs at Joey.

She is happy to get her tickets.

As she leaves she hits him with her skis. Then they all run up to the roof.

Everyone realises they're locked out.

They all get in and start arguing.

They all watch ugly naked guy and there's a small moment where he looks over at her.

Thanksgiving dinner - they give each other some cute looks.
