David has scored the lead in a new NBC pilot:

Quote:
David Lyons To Topline NBC Pilot ‘Game Of Silence’

Revolution co-star David Lyons is returning to NBC as the lead in the network’s drama pilot Game Of Silence, from CSI maven Carol Mendelsohn, Parenthood executive producer David Hudgins and Sony TV.

Written by Hudgins based on a Turkish format and directed by Niels Arden Oplev, Game Of Silence centers on Jackson (Lyons), a rising attorney on the brink of success who could lose his perfectly crafted life when his long-lost childhood friends threaten to expose a dark secret from their violent past.

NBC has been high on the project, which had a pilot production commitment with a series penalty attached to it. A writers room was set up during the script stage, with the stories for the first 13 episodes already broken. Hudgins, Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz, Oplev, Timur Savci and Tariq Jalil executive produce.

Australia-born Lyons, repped by CAA, Anonymous Content & United Management in Australia, recently wrapped James Vanderbilt’s Truth co-starring opposite Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid, Elisabeth Moss and Topher Grace.

I think I would have rather seen him join a gritty cable drama, but nevertheless, I'm glad to see him back in another leading role.

Some more casting news:

Quote:
Giancarlo Esposito Joins Allegiance

When in doubt, bring in a ringer! On the March 19 episode of NBC's Allegiance, the freshman spy thriller will introduce its main bad guy—or in this case, Breaking Bad guy. Giancarlo Esposito—who memorably played Gus Fring, a ruthless methamphetamine distributor with a chillingly calm demeanor on Seasons 2 through 4 of AMC's critically acclaimed series—has been cast in the role of Oskar Christoph. "He's our master villain, the one we're never gonna catch," reveals Allegiance executive producer George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau). "Giancarlo is essentially playing Gus Fring as an international terrorist, and we were so excited to get him."

Inspired by real-life '70s-era terrorist Carlos the Jackal, Esposito's character is a gun-for-hire who has been enlisted by the Russian government to carry out Black Dagger, a top-secret infrastructure attack on America. "Christoph's specialty is making things look like an accident," says Nolfi. "He's setting up all the dominoes and they're going to start to fall." Fledgling CIA analyst Alex O'Connor (Gavin Stackhouse)—with help from his parents Katya (Hope Davis) and Mark (Scott Cohen), sleeper cells for Russian espionage unit SVR—will spend the remainder of the season attempting to stop him before things literally go ka-boom.

It'll be no small feat, considering that Christoph's true loyalties—and identity—will remain intentionally opaque. "He transforms like a chameleon into about 15 people. In every episode, he'll have different accents and nationalities," says Nolfi. "Giancarlo has taken to the role with relish. When he wants to, he can be very scary and focused!"

Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza & Ukweli Roach Join NBC’s ‘Blindspot'; Graham Rogers Enrolls In ‘Quantico’

...

Graham Rogers (Revolution) has been cast as a series regular in ABC’s drama pilot Quantico. It revolves around a group of young FBI recruits, all with specific reasons for joining, who battle their way through training at the Quantico base in Virginia. One will launch a devastating terrorist attack on the U.S. Rogers will play Caleb, an athletic, somewhat cocky “golden boy” FBI trainee who’s having a hard time making the grade. Rogers is repped by APA and Stone Meyer.

And sadly, Daniella won't return for season 2 of The Night Shift:

Daniella Alonzo Out at NBC’s ‘Night Shift’

TCA 2015: Role of Dr. Landry De La Cruz is scrapped amid creative shift in the show for Season 2

Daniella Alonzo isn’t returning for the second season of NBC’s “The Night Shift.”

Alonzo’s role as the night shift’s lone psychiatrist, Dr. Landry De La Cruz, won’t continue amid a change in creative direction on Season 2.

“We’re opening up and getting more surgery and more of the paramedic world,” executive producer Jeff Judah said during Friday’s Television Critics Association press tour panel for the show.

After the panel, executive producer Gabe Sachs elaborated on Alonzo’s departure. “She’s amazing,” he told TheWrap.

“But the way the stories went,” he continued, “creatively we just decided to focus more on the ER stuff. We have a huge cast.”

Previously, Alonzo starred on NBC’s “Revolution” and ABC’s “My Generation.”

“The Night Shift” follows the the lives of the staff who work the late night shift in the ER at a San Antonio medical center.

Returning stars Freddy Rodriguez, Brendan Fehr, Jill Flint and Eoin Macken joined the producers on the panel. And so far, Season 2’s guest stars include Adam Rodriguez (“Ugly Betty”), Scott Wolf (“Party of Five”) and Merle Dandridge (“Sons of Anarchy”).

Sachs also said there’s one other creative change for Season 2.

“One thing we’re doing that is a tiny bit different is we realized how important it is to pace your stories,” he says. “The first season, everyone was related to everyone just to tell stories. And now, we tell the important ones. You’ll hear from the patients and you sympathize with them.”

Kim Raver To Topline ABC Drama Pilot ‘The Advocate’

24 and Grey’s Anatomy alumna Kim Raver has been tapped as the lead of the ABC drama pilot The Advocate, from Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein’s Vendetta Prods. and Warner Bros TV.

Written by Turner and directed by Michael M. Robin, The Advocate was inspired by the real story of former talent agent Byrdie Lifson-Pompan who teamed with Valerie Ulene, a medical doctor and a health education specialist, to launch a healthcare consulting and case management company.

It centers on Francis “Frankie” Reese (Raver), a tough, resourceful, type-A businesswoman at the top of her game who has a medical scare, only to be dangerously misdiagnosed, and experiences firsthand the hazards of our healthcare system. Shocking her friends and family, she leaves her career behind, becoming instead a brilliant and relentless advocate for anyone caught in the chaotic and ever-changing maze that is modern medicine. Turner and Klein executive produce, with Lifson-Pompan and Ulene serving as consulting producers.

Raver, repped by Atlas Artists and WME, recently reprised her 24 role as Audrey Boudreau in the limited series 24: Live Another Day.

I think this show sounds very interesting. I could see myself watching it if it gets picked up to series.

And sadly for Giancarlo, NBC has already cancelled Allegiance:

Quote:
NBC Thursday Shake-Up: Allegiance Cancelled, The Slap on the Move

NBC is pledging little Allegiance to its rookie spy drama, cancelling the series after five low-rated episodes.

The Slap, which is having its own ratings troubles on Thursdays at 8/7c, will take over Allegiance‘s 10/9c perch beginning next week.

At 8/7c, NBC will air Dateline: The Real Blacklist, a new investigative series hosted by Richard Engel that focuses on conspiracy-themed investigations and crimes that involve larger-than-life perpetrators and circumstances.

Allegiance premiered last month to sub-Parenthood numbers — 5 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating — and at last tally mustered just 3.4 mil/0.8.

The Slap, meanwhile, launched last month to 5.1 million total viewers and a 1.1 demo rating, and at last tally mustered 3.4 mil and a 0.8.

I was looking at Giancarlo's IMDB profile today and noticed that he's currently filming a new movie:

Quote:
Money Monster

Lee Gates is a TV personality whose insider tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. When Kyle loses all of his family's money on a bad tip, he holds Lee and his entire show hostage on air threatening to kill Lee if he does not get the stock up 24 and a half points before the bell. Ratings soar as the entire country tunes in to this media frenzy to find out just how much a man's life is worth. Meanwhile, the hostage situation sheds light on a possible scandal involving the company in question. With elements of Dog Day Afternoon and Network, Money Monster is a very timely piece in these economic times.
George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Dominic West are some of the other actors in the cast, so this appears to be a fairly prestigious project. Good for him.

Revolution alumna Tracy Spiridakos is set as the female lead opposite Adam Brody in the ensemble cast of CBS’ untitled comedy pilot written by former Modern Family executive producer Dan O’Shannon and writer Peter Warren. Directed by Pam Fryman, the project revolves around a group of friends and family at three different times in their lives. Spiridakos will play Holly, Andrew’s (Brody) crush when they were 12 years old. There’s an undeniable spark when they meet again at 25, and when they reconnect at 40, the spark’s still there.

In the CBS TV Studios-produced pilot, Spiridakos joins Brody as well as Tyler Labine and Kelly O’Sullivan. O’Shannon, Fryman, Dennis Erdman, Clark Peterson and Eric & Kim Tannenbaum executive produce.

Maureen Sebastian (Revolution) is set as a series regular in Fox comedy pilot Cooper Barrett’s Guide To Surviving Life, from 20th Century Fox TV and the Jackal Group. Written by Jay Lacopo, Cooper Barrett’s Guide is a nostalgic celebration of the mistakes and misadventures we all wind up going through in the years after college and before we settle down. It centers on 26-year-old Cooper Barrett (Jack Cutmore-Scott) who, during a particularly disastrous experience, decides it’s time somebody let the under-20 crowd know about the unexpected challenges of post-college life. Sebastian, repped by Don Buchwald & Associates, and Susan Yoo Management, will play Cooper’s over-achieving, loving and very self-sufficient sister-in-law Leslie Barrett.

Pilot season is currently underway and like usual, there are some good and some bad news. Good news first:

ABC has picked up Quantico (Graham Rogers is part of the main cast) and Fox has picked up The Guide to Surviving Life (co-starring Maureen Sebastian):

Quote:
ABC Picks Up Dramas ‘The Catch’, Jenna Bans, ‘Kings & Prophets’, ‘Boom’ ‘L.A. Crime’ & ‘Quantico’ To Series

ABC is adding a fourth Shondaland series, The Catch, for next season. It is one of abclogosix new drama series picked up by the network, along with Jenna Bans’ The Family starring Joan Allen, the untitled Don Johnson-Chace Crawford starrer (formerly Boom), the biblical saga Of Kings and Prophets, which already has a writers room set up to work on 15 scripts, gritty anthology L.A. Crime — now titled Wicked City — and the Mark Gordon-produced procedural Quantico.

Here are descriptions of ABC’s newly picked up drama series:

“QUANTICO”

A diverse group of recruits have arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, the brightest and the most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.

“Quantico” stars Priyanka Chopra as Alex, Dougray Scott as Liam, Jake McLaughlin as Ryan, Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda, Yasmine Al Massri as Nimah, Johanna Braddy as Shelby, Tate Ellington as Simon Asher and Graham Rogers as Caleb Haas.

“Quantico” was written by Josh Safran. Executive producers are Josh Safran, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper. “Quantico” is produced by ABC Studios.

Quote:
Fox Picks Up John Stamos Comedy ‘Grandfathered’ & ‘Guide’ To Series

Fox has completed its comedy series pickups with nods to Grandfathered starring John Stamos and The Guide to Surviving Life (formerly Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life), which join freshly picked up The Grinder, toplined by Rob Lowe. All three are single-camera, with neither of the network’s multi-camera pilots making it to series. With the network’s renewed comedy series also all single-camera, New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Last Man on Earth, Fox will have an all-single-camera comedy lineup for the first time in several years.

The Grinder and Guide are from 20th TV, while Grandfathered hails from ABC Studios, marking only the third ever comedy series order from an outside network for the studio, following Scrubs (NBC) and Gary Unmarried (CBS), and the first in 7 years. (Grandfathered became a co-production with 20th TV when it landed at Fox with a put pilot commitment in September in a bidding war with ABC.)

While starring vehicles The Grinder and Grandfathered were early standouts, Guide flew under the radar early on, getting a boost by solid testing results, with the momentum carrying it to the finish line. This marks the first series order for Gail Berman’s Jackal Group since the company’s launch last summer in partnership with the Fox Networks Group and the official return of the former Fox entertainment president to the network.

Written and executive produced by Jay Lacopo and executive produced by Gail Berman, in Guide, after a particularly calamitous experience, 26-year-old Cooper Barrett (Jack Cutmore-Scott) turns to a camera and, using cautionary tales from his own life, episode by episode, helps the youth of America survive the ridiculous disaster that is life and love in your 20s. Bill Callahan has been brought in as showrunner and will also executive produce. Meaghan Rath, James Earl, Charlie Saxton, Justin Bartha and Maureen Sebastian co-star.

And sadly, ABC has passed on The Advocate (starring Kim Raver):

I find that very disappointing because The Advocate was one of the shows I could have seen myself tuning in for. I am not surprised, though. The premise of the show is dealing with a very delicate issue and ABC was probably worried about the potential backlash it could receive...

NBC has picked up Game of Silence (starring David Lyons):

Quote:
‘The Player’ & ‘Game Of Silence’ Picked Up, ‘The Night Shift’ Renewed At NBC

It was Friday evening before upfront week in 2013 when NBC and Sony TV reached an agreement that covered the pickup of 3 new series, The Blacklist, The Night Shift and Welcome To The Family, and the renewal of Community. Exactly two years later, the two companies just reached deals for three pickups, series orders to drama pilots The Player (formerly Endgame) and Game of Silence, and third season renewal for medical drama The Night Shift. Factoring in the early third-season renewal for The Blacklist, we have another four-series package between the network and the independent studio.

Between NBC and Sony, deals traditionally have taken longer as the complex negotiations often involve multiple projects, ownership and securing a time slot. As part of the pickups, Game of Silence has now become a co-production between Sony and Universal TV.

While featuring dark overtones, drama Game of Silence, which marks the return to NBC of Revolution star David Lyons, has been well liked among NBC brass. The adaptation of a Turkish format comes from David Hudgins and Carol Mendelsohn and marks the first series order for Mendelsohn at Sony TV in her first development season with the studio.

Here are detailed descriptions of the two newly picked up NBC drama series:

GAME OF SILENCE

Carol Mendelsohn, executive producer and architect of the CSI phenomenon, presents a gripping new drama about a successful Atlanta attorney (David Lyons, Revolution) whose long-lost childhood friends unexpectedly reappear after 25 years. When a dark secret they thought they had buried resurfaces, the brotherhood bands together to right the wrongs of their shared past — a journey that will push the limits of their loyalty and quench their thirst for revenge.

The cast includes David Lyons, Michael Raymond-James, Larenz Tate, Bre Blair, Conor O’Farrell, Deidrie Henry, Demetrius Grosse and Claire Van Der Boom.

David Hudgins serves as writer and executive producer. Carol Mendelsohn, Julie Weitz, Tariq Jalil and director Niels Arden Oplev also executive produce. Game Of Silence is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Carol Mendelsohn Productions.

CBS has passed on Untitled O'Shannon/Warren comedy (co-starring Tracy Spiridakos):

And the CW has cancelled The Messengers (co-starring JD Pardo):

Quote:
‘Hart Of Dixie’ & ‘Messengers’ Cancelled By CW

...

It will be a short run for the midseason CW drama that succeeded Hart of Dixie on Friday, The Messengers, which is being cancelled after 3 low-rated airings. The pre-Apocalypse series opened with 1.18 million viewers and a 0.3 in 18-49. It marked the lowest rated in-season scripted series premiere on the CW since Cult opened with a 0.3 and 940,000 in February 2013.

I feel bad because the name Graham Rogers said nothing to me, and even after looking at the cast photo I didn't immediately recognize Danny. Shame on me.

Sorry about Tracy's pilot, but David's show sounds interesting! I'll make sure to check out the first few episodes, at least.

And Giancarlo has scored another movie role:

Quote:
Ashton Kutcher, Josh Hartnett Join James Franco Indie, ‘The Long Home’

The cast list also boasts Zoe Levin, Josh Hutcherson and Tim Blake Nelson

Josh Hartnett and Ashton Kutcher have joined James Franco’s indie drama, “The Long Home,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Other cast members signing on to the film include Zoe Levin, Analeigh Tipton, Scott Haze and Robin Lord-Taylor. Josh Hutcherson, Tim Blake Nelson and Giancarlo Esposito are already enlisted to star in the film.

“The Long Home” is based on a novel by William Gay and centers on a young man (Hutcherson) who finds himself working for the very bootlegger who killed his father 10 years earlier.

Franco is producing alongside Vince Jolivette and Jay Davis.

Kutcher currently wrapped his run in Chuck Lorre’s “Two and a Half Men,” and the project marks first-time he is joining forces with Franco. Hartnett appeared alongside Franco in Robert Duvall‘s project, “Wild Horses,” and Hartnett currently stars on Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful.” He is represented by UTA.

Levin worked with Franco in “Palo Alto,” and starred in the TV series, “Palo Alto,” and “The Way Way Back” with Steve Carell. Levin and Kutcher are both represented by CAA.

“The Long Home” is set to be released in 2017.

Way to go, Giancarlo! I might have to watch that - my brand new crush on Josh Hartnett also compels me.

And David is looking really good in blue. I also spot a lil' bit of stubble, nice (but more would be even better).

Yeah, it does sound interesting. Since when do you have a crush on Josh Hartnett, by the way?

Official trailer, promo photos and press release for The Guide to Surviving Life:

Quote:

THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE — Wouldn’t it be great to have a friend who has made all the mistakes in life there are to make, and then tells you exactly where he went wrong, so you don’t have to? THE GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE is a new comedy that explores what we all go through on our way to figuring out what life is all about. COOPER BARRETT (Jack Cutmore-Scott, “Kingsman: The Secret Service”) still doesn’t have the job he wants; he’s accidently fallen in love with his across-the-hall neighbor, KELLY BISHOP (Meaghan Rath, “Being Human”); one of his roommates, NEAL (Charlie Saxton, “Betas,” “Hung”), just can’t seem to dump his bodybuilder girlfriend; his other roommate, BARRY (James Earl, “Ground Floor,” GLEE), is a “loveable jackass” who can’t stop getting into trouble; and his 40-year-old-brother, JOSH (Justin Bartha, “The New Normal,” “The Hangover” franchise), a married father of two, is constantly popping in to come hang with the fellas. The one thing they do have is each other. As Cooper struggles to survive each of life’s many challenges – a night in jail, an inappropriate text he never should have sent, an ill-advised household pet – he will guide us through the often-messy, always-hilarious ordeal, so that our lives don’t have to be nearly the entertaining disaster that Cooper’s is turning out to be. The cast includes Maureen Sebastian. Jay Lacopo serves as writer and executive producer and Gail Berman, Bill Callahan and James Griffiths also executive produce. Griffiths will direct. The Guide To Surviving Life is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and The Jackal Group.

CBS has released a short first-look promo for Zoo (co-starring Billy Burke):

Paul Blart 2 trailer co-starring Daniella Alonso:

The movie has been in theaters for a while. I have checked it's box office performance and it has made $60 million so far, which is much worse than the first film. And the reception by critics has been downright terrible, unfortunately.

I have also found a (relatively) new interview + photoshoot with Daniella:

Quote:
Actor Daniella Alonso: Aspiring to be like her grandmother and accepting failure

Robert Piper: What inspires you?

Daniella Alonso: The person that inspires me and has inspired me my whole life is my grandmother. She’s strong, head of the household, the person everyone turns to, the one that can solve problems. She’s just so warm and caring, loving, but at the same time very strong and can do anything, in my eyes. A great role model and someone that I aspire to be like in life. People that do good in the world or that want to do good, that have good intentions and want to help other people, and people that aren’t concerned with themselves but more [with] others and helping in service of others—that inspires me.

RP: How do you stay healthy?

DA: That’s hard. It really is, because I have the biggest sweet tooth ever. I love chocolate, I love sugar, all that stuff. But I’ve learned to kind of not eat it but just treat myself every now and then with something. Because if you avoid it completely, then I personally go crazy. Then I binge and eat everything. I just try to eat things in moderation and find exercise that I enjoy, because I’m not a gym person. I cannot go to the gym and run on the treadmill and do weights for two hours. It’s the most boring thing in the world for me, so I found martial arts. I love karate. I like boxing. Just finding things that you enjoy and getting exercise out of them as opposed to just hitting the gym.

RP: How do you deal with overcoming failure?

DA: I think failure is just a part of life. You can’t avoid it in anything. I just accept it as a part of life and something that’s going to happen, and you use it to grow. You use it, you learn from it, and you grow from it. You develop a thick skin from it. I guess just accepting it is the thing. I don’t really look at it as a failure. I look at them as learning lessons and things you grow from but not really a failure, because that’s life. What are you going to do? You can’t do anything about it.

RP: What projects are you working on?

DA: I have a couple of films that are coming out. I have a film that I shot in the Dominican Republic which I am so proud of. It’s called Isolated Victim. It was the most life-changing, beautiful experience of my life, shooting in the Dominican Republic. I have a film called Re-Kill, which is a zombie/apocalyptic film. And Mall Cop 2 coming out in April, which is just a fun family comedy. It’s going to be such a great project, and aside from those films, back in L.A. for pilot season, and we’ll see what happens.

I have to say that's a really stunning shot of her.
