Yes, I also think it's intentional. Everyone has basically interacted with each other, except Damon and Bonnie. Fishy, isn't it? I think there's something planned between these two.

Oh,yes, you should definitely read the books! The fifth one is my favorite, even if it is a little different from the first four.

Go to your User CP and on the left sidebar, there's the option to 'Edit Your Avatar'. Click it and it'll bring you to a page where you can either upload the avatar from your computer or post the url.
