The Vampire Diaries "Pilot" Episode Discussion Thread #2

The Pilot
September 10 - The CW

http://i647.photobucket.com/albums/u...sode100_03.jpg

Four months after a tragic car accident killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, "DeGrassi: The Next Generation") and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, "Everwood"), are still adjusting to their new reality. Elena finds comfort with her best friend Bonnie (Katerina Graham, "17 Again"), frenemy Caroline (Candice Accola, "Juno"), and former boyfriend Matt (Zach Roerig, "Friday Night Lights"), but Jeremy is trying to figure out why Matt's sister, Vicki (Kayla Ewell, "The Bold and The Beautiful"), is suddenly rejecting him and hanging out with his rival, Tyler (Michael Trevino, "Cane"). As the school year begins, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley, "Fallen"). Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, but Elena doesn't realize that Stefan is hiding a dark, deadly secret – the fact that he's a vampire. At a nighttime bonfire party, Elena and Stefan are getting to know each other when chaos erupts after Vicki is attacked and left bleeding from a savage bite to the neck. Fearing that he knows who is responsible for the attack, Stefan finds that his older brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder, "Lost"), has returned to town. Now these two vampire brothers – one good, one evil – are at war for Elena's soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of Mystic Falls, Virginia. Sara Canning also stars as Aunt Jenna. Marcos Siega directed the pilot written by executive producers Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec.

Hey All :)

So I watched the episode and it was good. I didn't find it that much amazing because IMO the 2 main characters (S & E) are really uninteresting. There had too many scenes together and I just don't like how they're already soo into each other.

Thanks god Damon appeared. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't even watch the next episode.

So please less ES and more Damon. :in_love:

 Sonia Welcome on board hon.

I actually share the same sentiment. They just forced S/E that quick. I wish they've dealt with introducing them, like what they did with Jeremy, before building up the love story.

MissDK 09-12-2009 04:45 AM

I totally agree about forcing SE together way too soon.
In the book I think they're built up better, but what can we do?...
Anyways, Damon is HERE!!! :D

Thanks for the new thread Gay

I watched the episode :yay: I loved it though I do agree that Stefan and Elena were a bit forced but thats just something Ive noticed happens a lot with TV shows lately, its like the couple have to get together in the first couple of episodes or else  whatever happened to waiting for a ship to happen? :sigh:
anyways other than the thousand meaningful looks between S/E I really enjoyed the episode.
Wow, what a good looking cast  I had a hard time deciding who to drool over. :P
I liked Bonnie much much much more in the show that in the books, shes my least favourite character in the books cause she ... well, cause she keeps on crying all the time :look: but this Bonnie looks like a tough girl, also liked the changes they made to Elena, very smart move but Im not feeling for the character yet :look:
Ian, ... wow Ian, he was ... :thud:

Thanks Shnicky

I actually never had a thing for the couples that we are supposed to root for from the beginning. Especially the ones who are supposed to have this huge and beautiful connections. But these two are worst in a way that they aren't even interesting to watch now. What would it be when they'll start dating. oO

Agreed. I just need to see Elena with Damon, to see if there is a chance I could like her character.

I've watched the pilot, too, finally :)

First off, I should mention that I have read the books and am probably very biased towards them.

The good stuff: The setting, the mood in general is exactly what I felt it'd be like. It was really dark and daunting and I enjoyed it. Also, Jeremy is a wonderful edition and his relationship with Elena is the one I like the most until now. Also, Tyler being an ass! Gotta love that :D Bonnie's adorable and, of course, very much into guys ;) Vickie, the **** with a heart. And Caroline! Candice is a great Caroline, gotta love it :D

The not-so-good stuff: I agree with everyone who said SE seemed forced. Even as a big SE fan, I found it a bit much. Maybe that's just because I loved how they started off in the books, but their meaningful glares got on my nerves halfway through. Alright, they're meant to be, let's move on. Elena and Stefan alone or with others were great, though. But I did find Elena's character a bit underdeveloped, which is something that happened due to the forcing of SE.
I'm not quite sure why Vickie and Matt are siblings, to be honest. Right now, it doesn't serve any purpose... I miss Meredith. I miss Mrs. Flowers, although this guy might be cool. His "Uncle Stefan" seemed a bit much, though. Also, I think they've already humanized Damon too much. He is much meaner and crueler in the books, especially towards his brother. In their first encounter here, he wants to hang with Stefan, it seems, whereas in the books, he shows him right away who has the upper hand and leaves him almost dead in the woods (and no, he didn't care what happened to him). This almost seems to much like brotherly squabble than the real deal. Also, Vickie's "vampire!"

Favorite scenes:
Elena telling Stefan "You don't have to stand out there." and him going "I'm fine." Sucks being a vampire, huh?
Damon's "Rawr" moment
Jeremy asking Elena if she's doing any better than he does
Jeremy and Vickie fighting in the woods
Caroline's confession at the end and Bonnie's "I gotta get ME home"

All in all, I think it was a good pilot, but I think my expectations were too high :)

Mine were too. But the next episode looks pretty good but I think their having Elena and Stefan rush through their relationship in the book Stefan first started out staying away from Elena because she reminded him of Katherine, but in the pilot they have him come to her.

I watched the pilot, at first I really liked but I would like to reply to the fact that many people say this is going too quickly between S and E but in my opinion the writers did this to show that Stefan needs to see her, and he says in the episode that he really want to meet her.

(sorry for my english lol)

Why does he need to?
in the books it worked out very well without him seeing her this much and without them being together so quickly.
I liked going crazy like Elena did when Stefan stayed away from her and ignored her etc. in the book. I liked it.
I wish they did it here in the show too. Or just slowed a littile bit, because the meaningful looks between them has NO history whatsoever. They just met.

To be fair, this was only the pilot. They might slow things down a little, since pilots are usually much more fast paced than the shows themselves. They have to be, since they need to show in a nutshell what the show is about.

About that first one: I think we'll find that out, too. Because, remember, in the books, he wasn't drawn to Fell's Church because of her but because of something else. I wonder if they'll put THAT into the show as well.

Also, granted, they have changed quite a bit more than I had expected.
