No it happened like this: DE fandom is pissed about JP's interview. They tweet her, defending Elena. And then she said she didn't mean it like that.... and agrees.

I met my BFF in the kindergarten, but I don't remember much. We met again years later, in high school. We didn't have much contact after that, and met each other for the 3rd time in 2012. She still lives nearby, but will move away. We see each other once in a while, and she was also present at my dad's funeral. She started TVD a while ago, but got stuck in S2.

Yeah and I feel the DE fandom is a little naive. As much as we dislike those "other relationships", they won't end the series with Defan and you-know-who hating each other.

Exactly, and I frankly don't see the problem, I'm annoyed yeah, but don't see the problem, Elena is the first person who wants Damon to have friends and family and love and be on good terms with them, she'd never want to be the only one for him in that sense

Oh ok. So I guess you know which interview I'm talking about? Yeah the series has already confirmed that Elena changed Damon's life. That only extended in having family/friends. Even if we dislike those characters (and treat him badly), they're important for him too.
