That episode was meh. The only saving grace surprisingly was Stefan and Damon for me .

Stefan made me laugh with his superiority complex to Damon, but it also seemed like Paul was finally awake for his scenes and having fun again just being the DoucheStefan.

Damon...meh. He was ok when in relation to Stefan, but I'm not really interested in more drama about Elena and wanting to be good for her.

Caroline looked a wreck in this episode. I get she's supposed to be appearing more mature and she's a mother, but damn girl you don't have to dress like you're a 40 year old mother on the PTA. Also because her scenes were with evil mermaid #1 I had no cares about what was going on. Though that parting line from the evil mermaid about Stefan being a ripper and not safe around Caroline's kids seems ominous that steroline won't last too much longer.

Matt and his daddy issues are too little too late for me. Had this story happened in maybe s2 or s3 I would have been more inclined to care, but at this point the final season seems to be a little late to explore Matt's family issues.

Evil Mermaid #1 wanting a mystical magical bell is the dumbest thing ever I truly miss the days of the moonstone.

Overall it had it's moments, but tbh this episode (and season) has been a huge let down.

I'd say.... a diplomatic 7 as vote for the episode, I liked most of it, but many things very annoying too

What I liked:

Buahahahahahahha first scene was hilarious, loved the snarky dialogue between the brothers about their "job" while the others where all shocked and unable to answer, and the beginning with the whole "Hi, I'm Damon" "Hi Damon" thing

Sybil was annoying as always (I have problems with her voice, seriously ), but her scenes weren't too terrible, she had that percentage of insolence and sassy evilness that I enjoyed True, killing innocent children isn't nice, but hey!, she doesn't have to be nice None would buy her as a teacher though, but details, it was nice to see the high school again...

I guess now we'll see sister vs sister? And I still wonder who is really evil and who is not The Super-Bell was a super LOL but I don't find the idea so stupid as I feared, we're back to the good old "Let's find the magic object" storyline, classical... I wonder where Seline hid it and if it'll destroy the sisters or only stop them And still wonder what they'll use to beat Cade (if they'll beat him?) considering how powerfull is

Georgie's mention

The casting for Tara, in the first shoot she looked like Elena indeed

Very proud of Damon showing humanity again a bit, granted he was triggered by the fact Tara looks like Elena a lot, but still, it was great to see him not entirely evil and with a bit of conscience

Loved DE mentions and everything connected to the necklace, very emotional

What I didn't liked:

I swear... if I hear another "Dear Elena..." I'm going to break something, never regret so much Elena asking everyone to write in those damn journals, it's all so cheesy at this point If I were Elena I wouldn't even waste time reading those

The Maxwell-Donovan men are unbearable, can't believe they're wasting time with them linking the supernatural story to their family just to give them screen One keeps judging and complaining about the whole world, now the other complains about rich families humiliating their, my god, I couldn't believe my ears How long does this have to last? Out of curiosity, why they didn't simply take the torch away from the girl's hands in order to switch it off and THEN releasing the other kids?

Ripper!Stefan either annoys or irritates me, both in this case, so I don't like this recycled SL for him all over again, always the same, he tries to control himself, it ends with heads rolling on the floor. Period.

Caroline was pretty much useless all the episode, at the mercy of Sybil, basically she's there to be reminded she has kids every now and then... and stop

The plan of the brothers seems without logic and pretty cruel to me Ok, Cade thinks the entire humanity is pretty much doomed for any reasons. I already had problems with him condamning vampires on principle bc it's dumb, ok they can be evil but some of them try to be good too... but ok, let's pretend I accept it... but forcing or driving humans to do bad things just to say "Yo're bad/There is darkness in you" and drive them to hell... well, that's stupid, it's not fair, its not punishment for evil, but condamning the whole world without dividing good and evil. It's pointless to me

The journals are cheesey but its a nice tie in to the shows title so I don't mind them. And I love how much they mention Elena even though she is gone. If she doesn't come back in the finale I am gonna be so bummed. Also, them mentioning Georgie makes me wonder if they are going to bring her back somehow?

It was cool to see Caroline back in the Mystic Falls school. AND MATT AND CAROLINE HAD A SCENE YAYYYYY. They were so cute! I was so annoyed when Sybil popped up in the classroom. Like really show, can we PLEASE get one episode without her? UGH I am just so sick of her. We see more of her than we do of Enzo/Bonnie! If we are forced to deal with one sister Id rather have Seline. I will say though that she is less annoying to me around Caroline. I really hate Caroline's kids and that whole SL so I didn't enjoy them saying that Stefan was a "ripper" threat to them. I mean, he is but come on, can we let these characters have some happiness? If they dont put SC back together in the end i will be so angry.

I personally LOVE Matt and always have. And while I agree his purpose is a bit random and has been for a while, I still love him so I'm interested in his storyline. He sort of keeps things grounded in a way? Being the only remaining human on the show. It's just unfortunate that his father is around or that they introduced him at all because like you guys said, its just too little too late. Personally i like how he's being tied into the storyline more though. I do agree the whole "poor us" shtick is getting old.

I agree Anna about the SL this season, it just feels so pointless and just tacked in there just to create a storyline. I guess in a way it was fun watching Stefan and Damon together but it did just feel a bit random to me. I was hoping they were going to skip over the "serving Cane" thing. But I will say their humanities being off makes them both pretty hilarious together. Paul was pretty fine this episode too!m OMG it was Q's killer from One Tree Hil. DAMON AT THE END . And then seeing Ripper Stefan. But I loved seeing glimpses of Damon's humanity. Tara's parents died and she went into medicine, like Elena wanted to. Damon definitely felt something for the girl because of that relation so I loved that. And I've always thought Alexandra looked like Nina a bit. Stefan trying to manipulate her into making an "evil" decision was hard to watch. It just sucks that actually innocent people are being taken to hell? Such a fail.

All in all I thought it was a pretty good episode! The storylines were fairly simplistic so it was easy to follow and there was some good drama. I liked that it focused on S/D and then Caroline/Matt and that was it. It was refreshing.

Caroline/Matt - Love this friendship. It's one of the few mutually beneficial ones on this show.

Ripper!Stefan/Damon - Liked it for a little while but I'm already starting to miss well adjusted Stefan.

Stefan eating the pudding cup

The doctor. She was quite cute. And great casting to get someone who looks so much like Nina.

Damon. Much more tolerable than the passed couple episodes. Hopefully it's not long before he flips it back and starts caring about something other than avoiding Hell. The stuff with the necklace was kinda cute to me

Caroline. Ugh stuck with annoying Sybil. And Caroline can actually make me enjoy scenes with the most annoying characters but not this time.

Matt/his dad. I really don't care.

I hate to be the one to bring up religion in here because religion and politics are best kept out of tv show discussion threads but here goes After 8x06 and 8x07 I thought Cade was a bit too nice for a villain. I mean the fact that Seline actually thought she'd have the power to negotiate. Then him giving Stefan freedom for his last 24 hours. I thought that he just wanted to punish bad people as revenge against the bad people who hurt him and that Hell is like prison for the bad. I was thinking that Klaus is more wicked than him But after this ep it made me realise that this version of the Devil is very close to the version of the Devil that my religion has taught me. The motive of the Devil in my religion is to lead good people astray because it's seen as a win against God and humanity. And the most satisfactory wins would obviously be those who resist temptation of going dark. So forcing good people to do bad things is incredibly wicked.

Is Cade like eating the souls being sent to him or just torturing them for all eternity? Cause if it's about eating maybe the ones who make terrible choices in an impulse, but overall are good people have better, more filling, souls to feed on .

If it's about torture I think it's in relation to what happened to him as a human. There were good and innocent people and kids who suddenly turned on him and tortured him into death. I think he finds more satisfaction in leading good people into bad choices because it's similar to what happened to him and he thinks all people are capable of evil and terrible deeds if pushed just enough.

^ I just checked the scene's dialogue where he brings up Elena, and he said the most potent souls are the ones of the good who can be turned wicked, and that he likes feeding on them most of all. So he must be feeding on all of them, and then they get passed over to Hell. Feeding on them probably gives him immortality and strengthens his other powers.

I just remembered at comic con KW brought up how excited he was about S8's mythology. And spoke about the villains starting with Damon, Katherine, Klaus etc so Cade has to be the ultimate big bad the way he was talking. So maybe that bell when he rings it will get control over people or something. If he has some big evil masterplan.

Meh Katherine and Klaus were the best villains hands down. I enjoyed Kai too, but Katherine's diabolic mind was amazing and Klaus (s2/s3) just oozed power and control. Cade is falling seriously flat for me. Maybe it's just because the whole mythology isn't holding up for me, but he's just kind of a second rate villain to me much like those traveler witches were.

I'm not finding him that great either. Also the cast who read upto about 8x03 were raving about how they had the best villain yet and they were talking about Sybil because she was the one who took Defan I can't believe that they thought that she was so great Majority of the fandom from the comments I see find her annoying.

For me Katherine was the best. Klaus had great build up but they messed it up with having too many cheesy moments. I remember in 4x09 being so glad he was acting like the villain again

I guess I run out of my patience about them a long time ago, I could understand them in season7 but now I'm like "STOOOOOP!!!"

I'm wondering the same Since they introduced the whole SL I thought they could use it to bring some people back, but I was thinking more about Tyler... but Georgie would be so nice too, I liked her, I didn't like her to be dragged to Cade like that

Stefan and Damon were funny in the first scene to me, and I enjoyed the quick snarky dialogues between them, I just wished the moment was better for them, it's so messy, especially now that Stefan is on ripper mode again

I always thought he may have further reasons to be so "nice" with them in past episodes, like a evil master plan I understand your view and it makes sense, the Devil tempts and you don't have to fall for it... I'm not an expert of religion IMA, but it's also true that if you rue for what you did and make amend and so on you may have the chance not to go to hell and so on My problem is with that, Cade (and Defan or the sirens first) took away that chance from their victims, that's what I don't find fair, Tara&c. could have a second chances... granted it's the Devil, he doesn't have to play fair and surely after his own death his trust in human-kind is null... but still, a bit hypocrite of him to consider all sins alike to be judged and punished and don't give any second chance

I actually kind of like how they're manipulating the playing field and stacking the odds against the people they're trying to corrupt. Mostly because I want to see that one person not able to be corrupted and just have a good heart.

Watch that be Elena if Nina comes back .

Well, but Cade already said she was a pure soul now corrupted, don't think she'd fit

I completely forgot that. Cade just rambles too much for me. It's like "damn we get it, you're evil...get to the damn point already!"
