TVD Episode 5x12: The Devil Inside Discussion. Airs January 30th
SEARCHING FOR THE HIGH ROAD — When Enzo brings Damon a gruesome present and insists that they bond by committing an act of revenge, Damon makes an effort to do the honorable thing. After finding himself in awkward and confusing conversations with Nadia, Matt impulsively decides to throw a party, where Caroline makes a stunning confession to Elena, then has to face the consequence of her actions with Stefan and Tyler. Aaron does his best to make amends for his family’s past misdeeds and start a new life for himself. Finally, Elena suddenly finds herself in a life-threatening situation with only minutes to figure out how to save herself. Rules * Be respectful. Not everybody is going to agree with you, please accept that. Discussion is fine, but don't attack each other for e.g. supporting or not supporting a character. * No character bashing. Things like "I'm really not interested in xxx's storyline" or "what xxx did made no sense to me" are fine. Things like "xxx needs to die in a fire" or "I can't believe xxx actually has fans" are NOT. * Have fun. This thread is sharing your thoughts about the episode and discussing them. Don't let it get out of hand because you disagree with someone's thought process. __________________

Katherine was pure evil in this episode. She totally messed with damon.
So now we are going to have evil Damon again? It seems this show just keeps recycling the same ole storylines. I loved Tyler and Matt especially in their last scene. I feel really bad for Tyler. He really has lost everything now. |

I knew Katherine was going to cause as many problems as possible... I mean, who would've thought that she was going to mess things up with Damon and Stefan? I was actually enjoying them being civil to each other for once. I'm not too thrilled to have to deal with evil Damon again, either, so thanks Katherine.
I'm not mad at Katherine for the outing Caroline, though. I do think he could have been handled differently, but I kind of saw it coming. I'm just glad it's out now. I do understand why Tyler is upset, so don't think I'm heartless, but it's not like she did any of that out of spite... and it's not like Tyler deserved anything better, because he treated her bad when he was with her (I'm a big Caroline fan, so maybe I'm biased). I'm just hoping that was the final line for those two. This episode had some great Caroline/Stefan moments, though! I don't ship them as a couple (even though, if it happened I probably wouldn't be mad ), but I do love their friendship. Stefan handles Caroline so well. I'm actually kind of glad to be dealing with Katherine, and not Elena, despite all the trouble she is about to cause. She's much more interesting right now. |

And how convenient that Bonnie’s not there and hasn’t mentioned that Katherine didn’t cross over?! Come on. And Elena…I know she is not that dumb. All she had to do was reach over and kill that traveler mumbling the spell!!! Instead she weakly pushes her down and runs for it. And Damon. That is the biggest disappointment of all. “Elena” breaks up with him and so he just predictably goes back to being a crazy killer person. It would have been such a better story if he had tried to go back to being that person (since that's always been his usual response) and couldn’t…not because of Elena or anyone else, but because of him. Because after all he’s been through, he was different and had grown as a person. Sooooo disappointing. |

This whole Katherine takes control of Elena's body seems very soap opera-ish. You know, having a twin, stealing their identity and ruining their life? It's super lame. What does Katherine think is going to happen? After awhile, she'll want to tell Stefan that she's Katherine because I think she'll want Stefan to love her for her, not because he thinks she's Elena. And Stefan wouldn't be okay with Katherine stealing Elena's body so this isn't going to end well for Katherine. Besides, I know I'm in the minority here but I'd rather see Elena on screen over Katherine. __________________

It would have been good to see how people would change without Katherine. But TVD would go against one of their myths, that when the map who changed you dies, then all the progeny dies as well. I guess that would be the end of the series then. Then Elena could wake up from a dream and start the whole series over again giving the writers a chance to make up for all their <snip? |

I really missed episodes being set at the Lockwood mansion.
This episode wasn't great or anything, but it was the best one so far this season (which says a lot). Ian's such a class act, he truly does carry the show. I did have quite a laugh when Stefan basically told Katherine, without realizing it, that he couldn't care less about the fact that she died. |

I really love this show and I've really enjoyed this entire season, but I have to admit that I'm getting tired of the constant regression. I just find it ridiculous that the writers put so much effort into these characters and then the moment they are challenged with something, they can't deal with it. It's poor writing and I see the same problems on The Originals
I love Damon and he will always be my favorite character. I will also always adore him and Elena and the idea of her being so significant to him, but the fact that he can't be good without her, is annoying I hate Katherine right now. Loved her as a human, hate her as a vampire. I want Elena back. She and Damon are so good for each other and I just need them back together tbh. But like I said above, I don't like that he needs her in order to be a better person. I see the Stefan/Caroline foreshadowing and I love it. I've been hoping for it since the first season I think Caroline is great with Tyler, Klaus and Matt as well, but I only like Stefan with her. |

I couldn't agree more. From the firsth season all i've been hearing is Kathrine is in the tomb we have to get her out then Kathrine was not in the tomb.Kathrine cut John's fingers off, turned Caroline, compelled Jena to stab herself, impersonated Elena. Then Kathrine has the moonstone,Kathrine stole the cure and killed Jeremy. It's all Kathrine did this, did that. And we are supposed to forgive her just because Klaus killed her family to get back at her.Even when she turned she knew that the people that helped her would be destroyed but she did it anyway.I mean Elena lost her parents the her uncle John then Jena and Jeremy and bonnie but all she did was shut her emotions off for a while. Now this Kathrine going in Elena's body is supposed to be the thrilling twist of the season but it is only a huge disapointment. |
