Meaning he did not see it as a "good" thing that he wished on either one of them with Katherine out of the picture. And when Stefan showed up as a vampire, Damon seemed pretty much disappointed and sad that he had become one. So yes, he did want Katherine to himself and was made to believe by her that she would be his only but no, he never seemed to want vampirism on his brothers, even when Katherine was out of the picture as he did not regard vampirism as something particularly good -thus his own refusal to become one. Damon wanting Katherine for himself does not mean Damon wished ill on his brother. Likewise, Damon loving Elena and wanting her for himself does not mean he wished ill on his brother and takes joy in him being stuck in the tomb. That is the beauty of Damon and Stefan's relationship. They may fight and quarrel all they like, but they also love one another too much and will always be protective of one another.

I'd say torturing his brother for over a century is pretty much wishing him ill. Look we are never going to see eye to eye, you are most definitely a Damon fan and I am a Stefan fan, let's just leave it at that. I am also not saying that they aren't protective over each other. But loving your brother and making sure he doesn't die isn't the same as not causing him tremoundous grief and agony which is what Damon loved doing before Elena entered into the Salvatore's life and if it weren't for Elena, Damon would still be the same horrible person he was as he was back then. Damon should not be relying on his so called love for Elena to help change him, he should want that for himself and for his brother.

I'm sorry, but didnt Stefan also want Katherine all to himself?
They both wanted her to themselves, and it doesnt make either of them bad or evil
It's normal not to want to share the woman you love with anyone.

I dont get why we're having a Stefan vs Damon discussion in here. Everyone has their favorite brother, and whether or not you want to try and understand the other brother is your personal choice. That's all from me

elijah & katherine are great villians. love kat's line in this eppy.
I think the thing that i love about this season's villians is that we dont really know where any of them stand when it comes to what they want with Elena. Katherine at the beginning seemed VERY bad and out of control but we have gotten to see different sides to her.

Elijah i thought he was working for Klaus but after he said he wants to keep Elena safe, im wondering what he wants with her, and whether or not hes working against Klaus or not.

So there could potentially be three different villains working for three different causes and im not sure which one would be worse or what should happen at this point. I love that it's not so cut and dry with he's good, she's bad, etc.

ITA! I love how even the villains on this show have redeemable qualities and backstories to get interested in. What's fascinating is that these people are VAMPIRES. Like Damon has said, it's their natural instinct to kill and drink blood so when they DO, it's easier to forgive considering what they are. I feel like the vampires on this are very likeable for the most part and that probably has a lot to do with the idea that they can hold on to their humanity, if they choose to. What scares me is how easily they can turn it off too... But it also keeps things interesting.

From am evolutionary stand point, baby vamps being able to shut down their emotions make sense. The need to view their fellow humans as food, so they will eat and continue live. Rose makes it a point to say the switch stops working after a few years. I don't think it takes 500 years for the switch to stop working completely. I would image the switch starts to go haywire after about thirty or forty years. Just because I vampire turns their switch on doesn't mean certain individuals won't affect them. Isobel is the closest vampire we have been show to operate with her switch turned off, but Alaric and Elena were still able to penetrate her walls. Katherine who is supposed to be one of baddest of the bad, runs home to find her family even when they kicked her out. Their death, devastated Katherine and this was when her switch should have been fully working. If she wanted too, she could have shut down her feelings about her family.

The show has even said new vampires are extra emotional, so it makes sense that they can't turn their feelings off for important people in their lives, but can turn their switch on for people they don't have a close bound with and consider food.

Plus, I think newly turned vampires kill their victims shed some light onto what type of people they are. Caroline who is a good person drained Carter because she could smell his blood and was hungry. She never meant to cause him any pain, her hunger took over. I think if a vampire really enjoyed torturing their victims than it would show them in a negative light. Their actions can't be excused by simple hunger. Now they get off on just causing pain for the sake of pain.

To be honest, I am not exactly sure if I am really happy with how in control she is as it doesn't really fit in with what we know of vampires, and their hunger, especially as baby vamps.

I think one thing that explains why she is able to do so well without going on a killing spree is NOTHING in her life really changed. When Stefan asked Bonnie to make a ring for Caroline he has mentioned how it would keep her more in touch with her humanity and it did. Because it has allowed her to go on about living her life like nothing changed. Apart from that, she has friends and family around who take care of her and show her love and support and teach her how to be a vampire and what to do with her cravings. I think having common enemies to fight against and now Tyler and his werewolf problem has helped Caroline keep focused on other stuff than her "urges to kill" as a baby vamp. Then there is the fact that thanks to Damon's stash she is well fed at all times so does not need to feed on others. Actually, it seemed like when she was forced to be on the animal diet she was more out of control, due to not being fed well enough. Guess Damon was right when he said a baby vamp needs human blood. And she is obviously engaging in whatever activity she can to suppress the urges (like overeating human food).

I think that is the show's point of view. In the circumstances a vampire finds itself in after being turned has much affect in how "in control" they are able to stay. Though obviously the vampires own character also plays into it a lot, too. Caroline's controlling personality, as well as her loving supportive friends and family seems to have helped in keeping her in control. But I am not sure if in her perfection she is making other vampires all look bad. It would be nice if she, at least, freaked out and got all veiny when smelling blood or something.

Btw, I believe Rose actually said it takes a few HUNDRED years for the switch to stop functioning. Which was interesting as it sounds like quite a long time. But I guess when you are a vampire and have eternity to live, it is not much. I wonder if by vampire standards 100-200 is like reaching "adulthood". When you hit vampire adulthood the switch starts to stop functioning and the now "adult" vampire just has to deal with all the feelings. And maybe those who can't do end up offing themselves or being even more cut-off from humans and "cold" calculating monsters? Like Katherine, Elijah and Klaus - to the point even other vampires fear them...

Awesome:

* LOLOL, Caroline lifted that tomb-stone by HERSELF and the Salvatore brothers needed to be two to do it? You go girl.

* Really like Caroline/Tyler so far and I didn’t think I would.

Less awesome:

* Jeremy has become less interesting as a character somehow. He used to be my favourite in season 1. Also, not really feeling the chemistry between him and Bonnie. Not to mention what he did was stupid, doomed to fail and only served to get Stefan in there with Katherine in the tomb (from a storytelling perspective).

* I still don’t get it. Why did they leave the moonstone with Katherine in the tomb in the first place? At least Stefan is written to be smart, he should have figured out that leaving such a powerful device - no matter how useless he thought it was for them at the time - with K of all people would only lead to trouble.

Another solid ep.

I can see the logic in this pov. It didn't sink in to me until a few episodes after Katherine was put in the tomb. I mean, they didn't know what's the real purpose of it nor how would Katherine tend to use it; but still they left it with her.

Damon saying he’d rather poke his eyes out after Katherine invited him in… . Hilarious. And then she said Damon had pretty eyes.

Elena admitting she cared about Damon and Damon’s face after. OMG YES LOVE. And Elena seemed super uncomfortable to learn that Damon/Rose were sleeping together. And again, they made a point to show her reaction which is telling.

MC scene was . Matt is so cute. The ending scene was great too. I love that Matt came to see her. When he said he missed her that made me so happy!

Jeremy/Katherine scenes were pretty great too! He was brave but also being a dummy.

Jeremy and Bonnie are still boring. I thought the little lip touch was sort of cute but again, they just feel too weird to me.

I found Tyler/Caroline this episode a bit blah. I liked them at first but idk, theres too much attention/focus on them and it doesn’t really make sense to me that Caroline would be around him so much knowing he could kill her.

Why didn’t Bonnie run into the tomb and play her little mind control thing on Katherine?

DAMON SHOWING UP TO SAVE ELENA HELL YES. I don’t care if he is forceful, he loves Elena and is going to protect her and I loveeeeee it. The punch scene between them was hot. Then when he stood in front of her to block her and said he’d break her arm, GUH. And their final scene when he grabbed her arm, again, that was so hot. I love that she said he shouldn’t question why she wanted to save him. And Damon grabbing Elena from going into the tomb. I just love that Stefan could overhear the whole thing. He knew their connection was there. You could see so much tension in their bodies in that scene! Damon was so hot this episode!

Damon saying he would find a way to get Stefan out. And it’s interesting that Stefan is always telling Damon to look after Elena. He does it because he knows how much Damon cares but in a way I feel like thats part of the reason why Elena fell in love with Damon too. By how much he was willing to sacrifice just to keep her face…

Elijah was pretty bad ass this episode and Damon attempting to stand up to him was so cute.

Stefan getting locked in the tomb with Kat was awesome! SK!
