There was a lot of Elijah/Elena love when he first appeared but I didn't really get that pair but that moment when KE were running caught my attention and I was interested.

Same with me... I never saw Elijah/Elena as even a possibility... she already had her plate full with both Stefan and Damon running after her.
And I like KE because she seems more mature, and I always thought that Elijah was more mature than most characters in the show.... although now I've been proven wrong about that.

When Katherine thought Elijah came to visit her.

you could see the happiness in her eyes. I truly believe Stefan and Katherine are in the category of the few she really did love.
