I agree with this. Both because overwhelming enough for him, and because I think he doesn't want to stress her out.

That reminds me, I forgot who said it in an interview but there was a deleted Elena & Jeremy scene in 3x01

fail fail! They need as many scenes as possible IMO. I just love their dynamic.
