It's the fact that Elena lashed out on everyone in 4x16 bc she didn't care what they think.
With Damon however: He put her on the bed and told her to stay there. She stayed! She even asked him how long she has to stay there without lashing out on him.
She asked for his opinion, she discussed with him, tried to convince him to still like her, when she didn't care if anyone else still liked her :sigh;
I loved that. With everyone else she made it really clear that she didn't care what they think and didn't even feel the need to justify any of her actions, and just plainly told Stefan and Caroline that she felt nothing. Once she was with Damon, she told him how she did in fact feel, and that she felt amazing. She was excited to go to NY with him. It reminds me of S1 Damon, as much as he tried not to care, the one person he began to care about was Elena, and that's why she was the one person he wanted to spend time with (which became particularly obvious in 1x11 when he took on that road trip.).

Razo, I have a special connection to that movie, it was the last Christmas I shared with my grandma before she died, she gave that movie to me
