An episode whose primary plotline, Rachel's Prom experience, offers a fantasy or a nightmare mattering on one's perspective. When Quinn tells Santana that they can make a difference, for a split moment I wondered if Quinn would next be seen conversing with Finn saying he should give his crown to Brittany.
Of course it does not go there. In fact, Brittany running as King is called "weird" by Sue and Quinn seems to scoff at Brittany's decision since after all Brittany is a girl. Basically the show is indirectly supporting a message based in intolerance - that winning prom couples must fit a man/woman dynamic. Instead Rachel's dream plays out and if I was for homogenized, stale, unoriginal, uninspired dreams I would be crying instead of rolling my eyes. Do the writers themselves know what a deadening experience it is watching focus applied to television's most boring couple - one seemingly written by committee - one who was written with the comprehension it is easy to get teens watching the outcast girl gets the popular boy. When Santana dresses down Rachel in one of the most enjoyable moments in Glee's history is it the writers attacking their own creation? Or is it more likely, offering up the alternative view on how people feel about Rachel. Rachel and Finn's dance is, under scrutiny, all that is wrong with Glee when Glee is bad - it is contrived, dishonest, and pandering. And the message is rotten to the core. Finn though has a way of ruining whole episodes. The monumental queasiness of the excrutiating straight man will teach lesbians what is right "I Kissed A Girl" comes to mind as he yells at Quinn to stand. The detestable Finn is not the most unlikeable character on tv. That remains Joffrey on Game of Thrones. But at least Joffrey is watchable. Still the episode is overall pretty good. It is pretty good because Brittany is hilarious and demonstrates once and for all how little she cares about Rachel. The season's funniest moment may be Brittany calling a prom council student "Rachel". Santana gets to dress down Rachel. Puck and Becky Jackson share some tender moments and prove yet again that any couple has more chemistry than the homogenized pandering bait of Rachel/Finn. Sue is funny. Morris, Rivera, and Agron all shine. They help overcome the elephant in the room. Or should I say dinosaur. |

enjoyed this episode, despite Quinn and Santana thinking about only themselves it was nice that they whipped out all the votes to make Rachel the winner. It's the only good thing these two have ever done.
Brittany's rules for prom was stupid but the theme was pretty cool. I love Becky, really I do but she was over reacting to not being nominated for prom Queen and she took it too far however I loved her and Puck in the hotel room it was funny to see these two interact with each other. Speaking of Puck, I feel so bad for him I really hope he gets to graduate with his class and if not that means he'll be in next season too. But, aw Finchel Prom Queen & King! __________________

What I liked:
-Mike's enthusiam over dinosaurs -Wemma, even if it was brief -Finchel, of course -Blaine/hair gel (my new ship) -Speaking of which, Blaine without hair gel, and Kurt's reaction -Santana's reaction to Rachel's anti-prom -That Puck & Becky didn't hook up (I was worried there for a minute) -Rachel winning prom queen, even if it was predictable -Samcedes -Brittany and Cheerios dinosaur number. I confess that, yes, I did get up off the couch and dance along with them!!!! -Quinntana duet- their voices took MY breath away! -Tina & Mike's moment at the end when she said she didn't want this year to end. Neither do I. I'll miss this cast when they move on! What I didn't like: -Implication that Puck will still be there next year (seriously, if I wanted to watch a TV show with a character whose only likeable quality is his hot abs, I'd watch Jersey Shore) -Faberry scene- it just seemed forced as opposed to the dramatic, emotional Faberry scene from last year's prom -the scene from next week's episode that they were going to show but didn't -Lack of Jonathan Groff (though I have to admit that it would have been redundant to have him there) |

So in watching Glee I have learned what it takes to be a hero: Being a basic white CIS gender straight male who outs a lesbian woman of color and tries to tip over a disabled girl in a wheelchair. Only in Glee, anyways onwards with the episode.
Rachel I love you but come the hell on and pull your head out of the water and stop with your pity party. Why the hell are you settling with only with having Finn? Does the show not realize how problematic and sexist this message is? Well you might not have gotten into your dream college or have your dream future but at least you have a boyfriend. Because really what else does a girl need in life but to have a boy at her side, right? I can't with this show. Whatever I loved Santana calling her out in the choir room because she was 110% right. Points for Santana dropping truth bombs tbh. Not to mention I rolled my eyes so hard at the fact that Rachel and Finn won prom queen? Am I supposed to believe that Finn beat out Brittany who only got 4 votes? Let's be real here for a second teenage boys are horny as hell and perverts and would have loved to see 2 girls be prom queen and king. I refuse to believe Finn won on any credibility, but he is the shows white male hero so I shouldn't even be shocked the school is supposed to vote for someone as bland as him. At least with Rachel it was a write in due to pity, and of course it was the writers pandering to the Finchel fandom , because what else is new? Brittany being mean to Blaine was the highlight of my life. I hate everything he chooses to be and more, so anytime someone throws shade his way my heart grows three times bigger that day. Keep it up show. It's the one thing you're doing right. Besides it was only an excuse to see Blarren with his regular girls. But I have to say I find it disgusting when someone uses that much hair gel. Holy ****. Plus I find it hard to sympathize with Blaine when people in the Glee club have been bullied much worse than a stupid hair gel comment. Even had racist comments thrown their ways and I'm supposed to feel bad for Blaine because hair gel is banned? No. So am I supposed to believe that even though Quinn and Santana went through some traumatic **** for being in HS they had it all and therefore should forfeit prom queen? Oh ok. Also from what I gathered Quinn could sort of walk but not enough to make her comfortable nor to walk around for a full night at prom in a social area. Yet somehow Finn isn't made to look like the biggest ******* ever for trying to push her out of it? For ****ing real? This show did a whole storyline about how domestic violence was wrong but this slides? Really? Not to mention Santana was almost suspended for slapping Finn for valid reasons yet Finn gets nothing for trying to toss a disabled girl out of her wheelchair? This show? I can't with the hero Finn crap. I would appreciate much more if he was a doucher but at least called out on it. This show gives him basically 95% douche moments that are never acknowledged or called out. In fact in Santana's case it's something you should thank them for. Ugh. The only thing I enjoyed about Rachel being prom queen was it was Quinn's idea and their hallway scene was nice but other than that I can't with this show pandering and kissing the ass of the Finchel fandom. Brittana in their few seconds they got trumped ever other couple, as usual. I did like the Puck and Becky scene and thought it was super sweet what Puck did, I enjoyed that more than Rachel Berry winning prom queen. I really hate this show. __________________

breath we drew, I could not agree more. The messages Glee teaches:
A) It is clear that white, straight couples are far more deserving of respect and screentime than same sex couples, interracial couples, couples of color. B) Straight, white men know what is best for everyone. C) There is no such thing as a random same sex kiss. One has to ask repeatedly for it and once it is given, you are expected to be quiet. This show wants it both ways. It wants to present itself as wonderfully diverse. At the same time, it ignores couples with terrific chemistry to focus on the straight white couple that has zilch. |
