Opening Night - 5x17 Discussion - aired 4/23/14 on FOX
Opening Night
Based on previous heated debates, we (moderators) have decided to list some guidelines and rules that need to be followed on all episode discussions here. 1. Do not bash any of the cast members or writers. Discussion should be about characters. Substituting an actors name for a character when discussing the character is not okay. They're not the same person. Respectfully critiquing someone's performance or a writer's contribution is fine, however, bashing and being rude about them is not. Offensive nicknames for the writers and cast-members are also not to be used here. This is against Fan Forum policy and is an insult to real people.Thank you, everyone! Happy __________________

Well this episode was 3x better than the last two thank the lord.
Santanas back and it shows, everything improved. Her intro back to the show was probably the funniest part of the episode. The constant Rachel Berry love was making me nauseous. I could stand majority of it but when they got to the club and they were OMG Rachel BERRY! was just to much. I did like the club scene apart from that though. No surprise that Rachel got a RAVE 5 star review with her being flawless in every way possible. But this episode did have plenty of little surprises with Rachels lil dream sequence (which tried a bit hard to be comedic) with Karofsky and Jewfro showing up. And Rachels little memory of Finn was touching. And they just found their way in to move Sue to NY at least part time if they wish. Sues corner should've been a main staple of this show. |

I thought that this was a terrific episode, and it’s probably the best episode that I’ve seen this season. I loved seeing how nervous Rachel was as she was on the verge of realizing her dream, and I really enjoyed seeing her friends rally around her, and I actually cried when she sang Who Are You Now and we got to see that brief clip of Cory/Finn. Seeing Cory’s sweet smile made the tragedy of his death hit home for me again, as I’m sure it hit home for Lea Michele and the rest of the cast. That song and scene must have been hard for Lea to do, but her real-life loss brought a very touching and moving poignancy to that scene. I had no interest in Sue and her new love interest, but I was once again pleasantly surprised at what a good singer Jane Lynch is.
Lea Michele is by far the most talented cast member, and she really shined in this episode. It was also nice to not have to focus on the other cast members for a change, because I find their stories incredibly boring, so I was glad to see a Rachel-focused episode, and I was so happy to see her dreams come true. __________________

I'm not a Lea fan, but I thought she did very well tonight.
Rachel singing "Who Are You Now" with the Finn flashback got me all veeklempt. I also loved the Will/Sue duet, and it reminded me again how much this show likes to waste Matt's talents. He's still my favorite performer by far. I was sad that Will had to miss Rachel's show, but I'm glad that he finally gets to be dad. He's wanted that since "The Pilot." Anyone besides me think they are trying to ship Will and Rachel? I wondered that after hearing Will say "I always knew we'd wind up here...I mean, I always knew you'd wind up here," and then after Will told Rachel he loved her and when Rachel told Will she loved him after the baby was born.
I read that Ryan wanted to have the last scene in the last episode of Glee be between Rachel and Finn, but then after Cory died he decided to have it be between Rachel and Will...so who knows? Surprisingly, I ship it (the creep factor given that he used to be her teacher notwithstanding). __________________

Yeah, the problem with shipping Will and Rachel (aside from the creepy he-used-to-be-her-teacher factor) is that he's married and just had a baby. If Will and Rachel wind up together, then they'll have to break up Wemma somehow....

My story shows the way, but it's too late for them to take that route now.
They're not quite together at the end. She's 19, with plenty of time to choose between the four men who love her and he among the four single women who want him. Emma ends up with the man she really loves. |
