"Glee" (Fox): Right away, when this hour bowed in a one-time showing last spring, we saw this was not your typical TV show. First, there was music, but it wasn't a musical. It was a drama/comedy series where songs and dances came from a natural place: a struggling glee club. Second, it was about a high school, yet it had both kid and grown-up appeal. Third, it introduced one of the most remarkably talented young women on TV, Lea Michele as Rachel, and gave us one of the tube's funniest, most despicable villains (played perfectly by Jane Lynch). Last but not least, it reimagined established songs in such a fresh way that they became new hits of both the download and CD kind. In sum, "Glee," the real tour de force from "Nip/Tuck's" Ryan Murphy, had to be the most innovative gem of the year.
